Rustic Smokehouse Yongin Bojeong Branch is a Texas Western-style barbecue and pasta restaurant on a side street behind the Bojeong-dong café street in Yongin, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered the B Set at Rustic Smokehouse, which came with two barbecue meats, pulled pork and baby back ribs, plus Toowoomba pasta. Verdict: the long-smoked baby back ribs were tender, the pulled pork made a mini burger in a soft dinner roll, and the thin Toowoomba sauce paired well with the barbecue.

Ingye-dong hangover soup, peppery broth & free rice: Jeju Eunhuine

Jeju Eunhuine Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch is a Jeju-style haejangguk (hangover soup) restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon, about 2-3 minutes on foot from Exit 7 of Suwon City Hall Station. On a date with her husband, the writer ordered a clear haejangguk without ox blood or chili paste, a haejangguk with chili paste, dombe-gogi (Jeju-style boiled pork) and seasoned tripe; the cool, strongly peppery broth tasted just like her favorite gukbap spot in Gwanggyo, and the meat, glass noodles and bean sprouts were generous. With haejangguk at ₩12,000 and free rice, Jeju Eunhuine Haejangguk is worth recommending to anyone looking for good-value gukbap near Suwon City Hall Station.

Yongin wood-fired pizza: opening queue and Miso Porcini, Bonaricetta

Bonaricetta (보나리체타) is a wood-fired pizza restaurant on the 2nd floor directly in front of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) in Mohyeon-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi. Even arriving right at opening time, the writer found 10 groups already waiting, then ordered the Miso Porcini pizza, which placed 3rd in a wood-fired pizza contest, and shrimp aglio e olio with extra noodles. Bonaricetta's rich, creamy cheese and soft, ciabatta-like dough make the long wait understandable.

Burger lunch near Icheon Pottery Festival: dirty fries at Gladyburger

Gladyburger Icheon Jungri District branch is a handmade burger shop with a yellow sign on Buak-ro in Icheon, Gyeonggi. After the first day of the Icheon Pottery Festival, the writer stopped by alone for the avocado Gladyburger, dirty fries layered over a beef patty, and chicken tenders. The smoky, beefy patties stood out. Gladyburger is a good handmade burger spot for an easy-parking solo lunch on the way to or from the Icheon Pottery Festival.

Patio pub in Ingye-dong, Suwon: mulhoe & fish stew, Taebaek Sanghoe

Taebaek Sanghoe Ingye Main Branch (태백상회 인계본점) is a patio-style pub near Nahyeseok-geori in Ingye-dong, Suwon, serving both meat and seafood. The writer went early in the evening with her husband and ordered mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and seodeori-tang (fish-bone stew). The mulhoe came in a large portion with an ice-cold broth, and the seodeori-tang tasted less of MSG and had plenty of fish meat. Taebaek Sanghoe is a solid pick for a date or a night out with friends in Ingye-dong.

Gwanghwamun gyukatsu restaurant: butter-grilled striploin, Ichigyu

Ichigyu Gwanghwamun Branch is a Japanese-style gyukatsu (beef cutlet) restaurant on B1 of Le Meilleur Jongno Town in Jongno, Seoul. On a weekend, the writer walked from Anguk Station to arrive at opening time, grilled striploin gyukatsu, steki (steak-style) striploin, karaage fried shrimp and potato croquettes in butter on a personal hibachi, and ate plenty thanks to unlimited rice. For an easygoing beef lunch near Gwanghwamun, the striploin dishes at Ichigyu Gwanghwamun Branch are a great fit.

Fish restaurant near Seosuwon Terminal, bakdae & hairtail: Godeungeo

Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch (고등어명품이되다 수원점) is a large oven-grilled fish restaurant on Seobu-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, near Seosuwon Terminal. The writer ordered grilled bakdae (tonguefish) and grilled hairtail plus a separate gochujang bulgogi, then slightly regretted the extra order because the gochujang bulgogi served with the grilled fish was already generous. With a large free parking lot, a self-serve side bar and oven-grilled fish with no fishy taste, Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda is a good choice for a family meal with parents.

Gogi-ri kalguksu on a rainy weekend: crispy seafood pajeon, Yun Ujae

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is a shabu-kalguksu (beef hot pot with knife-cut noodles) restaurant that makes its noodles in-house, in Gogi-ri, Suji-gu, Yongin. On an early rainy weekend visit with her husband, the blogger waited about 10 minutes behind 2 parties on Catch Table, then had the mild white broth for 2 (23,000 won) with flat noodles and the crispy seafood pajeon (16,000 won). The flat noodles eaten as wraps and the crispy pajeon, seasoned well enough to skip the soy sauce, made the weekend wait at Yun Ujae feel completely natural.

Cheonan brunch café with Mom on a fall foliage drive: Geurimseu

Geurimseu Cafe (그림스 카페) is a forest-view brunch café on Mijuk 5-gil in Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, surrounded by mountains and filled with plants inside and out.
