Quiet Euljiro3-ga cheongju bar: Seoseol and Oh My God sparkling, Moss

In short

Moss is a quiet traditional liquor bar on the second floor in Jung-gu, Seoul, a 2-minute walk from Euljiro3-ga Station Exit 11. After a first round in hip Euljiro, the writer came to Moss for round two and, on the staff's recommendation, drank Seoseol cheongju (35,000 won) and Oh My God sparkling (55,000 won) by the glass and by the bottle with seasonal sashimi ceviche (26,000 won). On a night when loud places are the last thing you want, Moss works for a date, a blind date or a small group of six or fewer.

We'd had a drink in hip Euljiro and were feeling great. Someone suggested round two, but now that I'm older I just can't do loud places anymore haha. So we went looking for somewhere with good vibes and quiet — that's how we found the traditional liquor bar Moss.

We got recommended a bunch of different traditional liquors and had a proper chat in a calm atmosphere. We were so satisfied we promised each other we'd come back!!! This place would be great for a blind date or a regular date, and it's also a nice quiet spot for groups of six or fewer.

Walking into Moss, it just feels clean and pretty. Apparently the space is designed around a "moss in the city" theme — there's a bar table plus seating on one side, so it works both for small groups and for sitting at the bar and getting recommendations for a drink.

Moss menu and prices

At Moss you can order all kinds of traditional liquors — makgeolli (rice wine), yakju, cheongju — by the glass or by the bottle. They also have cognac, whisky and more, and the staff are so good at recommending that we got to try something new. They even suggested side dishes that matched whatever we were drinking.

How the staff at Moss recommend a traditional liquor

Traditional liquor chosen on the staff's recommendation at Moss

We don't know much about traditional liquor, so we just asked the staff to recommend something. They asked what styles we usually like, then recommended a drink and explained it to us.

Homemade basic side dishes at Moss

The basic side dishes are homemade, and they're really clean — not over-seasoned — so they don't get in the way of the drink, they actually bring the flavor out more. They were so good we asked for a second round!

Seoseol cheongju, 35,000 won

Seoseol cheongju ordered at Moss

On the staff's recommendation, we ordered Seoseol cheongju. Clean-tasting and easy to drink without feeling heavy.

Seasonal sashimi ceviche, 26,000 won

A plate of seasonal sashimi ceviche at Moss

We were debating what to order for a side dish, and they suggested this would pair best with the drink we'd chosen. The sashimi was, I think, flounder. Honestly I was a little tipsy by then so... haha... I don't remember exactly. It came with fruit and was fresh and delicious.

The drink was tasty and went down smoothly, so we got excited and finished the whole thing pretty quickly.

An emptied bottle of Seoseol cheongju

We knocked back the whole bottle and got a second recommendation. The first pick had been so satisfying we asked them to recommend again!!

Oh My God sparkling, the second recommendation

Oh My God sparkling, 55,000 won

Oh My God sparkling had crisp, refreshing bubbles with a faint floral scent — smooth going down and really nice. It came chilled too, which made it even more enjoyable to drink.

Verdict: is Moss a good quiet second round in Euljiro?

A final drink to close out the night at Moss

Every bar I've been to in hip Euljiro before this has been loud. Moss has an atmosphere that's hard to find in the neighborhood — stylish but quiet — and it would be really good for a date. Perfect for a blind date too!!!

Getting good traditional liquors recommended by the glass means you can drink to your own taste. Judging from the basic side dishes, everything else on the menu is probably delicious too. Fully recommend Moss as a bar near Euljiro3-ga Station — also a great quiet spot for a small gathering.
