Tree-shaded picnic café in Uijeongbu, matcha vs black sesame: Forerest
In short
Forerest is a large Basque cheesecake café at 181 Nogyang-ro in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. On a weekday afternoon the writer explored Forerest's tree-shaded terrace and its differently styled indoor rooms, then tried an iced flat white, an apple ade, and matcha and black sesame Basque cheesecakes. Basque cheesecake is the only dessert on the Forerest menu, but its dense, fudgy texture is worth the trip on its own.

Where is Forerest in Uijeongbu, and is parking easy?
Forerest is a large café at 181 Nogyang-ro in Uijeongbu, on the left on the way to Nambang-dong. Today I visited Forerest, a big Uijeongbu café known as a cheesecake hotspot :)

There's a wide parking area in front, like an open lot, so you can visit without worrying about parking.
- ⏰ Open every day
- AM 11:00 ~ AM 12:00
- ✅ Groups, waiting area, pets allowed
The hours are long, so it's also a good stop for a late-night drive.

It's lush and green right from the entrance! The grounds are huge and visible from far away, so it wasn't hard to find.

The sculptures dotted around are unusual and give the place a distinctive mood. Climb these stairs and you reach Forerest, the cake hotspot.

Won't the Forerest terrace be hot?
There were quite a lot of outdoor terrace seats at Forerest, and since they're under trees, the sun wasn't harsh and it felt cool. On a nice day like the one I visited, eating outside gives you a picnic feeling, so I think it'd be lovely :)

From the outside, it looks like a cozy little cabin.

What are the Forerest indoors like, and is it OK with kids and pets?
The inside of Forerest feels different from the outside, and there's plenty of group seating too.

Each room is decorated differently yet stylishly, so it was great for taking photos.
There are high chairs and a nature-filled atmosphere, so it's ideal if you're looking for somewhere to go with a child.

Best of all, every little prop has its own character, so it's fun just to look around.

I went on a weekday afternoon and there were still quite a few guests, and I hear it's nearly full on weekends :) No wonder, since pets are allowed too, so people of all ages can enjoy it without any fuss.

What's on the Forerest menu?
As a cheesecake hotspot, Forerest's signature is the Basque cheesecake! There are no other breads or cakes.

A fridge stacked with cheesecakes that look delicious just by looking.

The drinks menu is pretty varied, with coffee, lattes and ades, and there are especially many teas, so I think older guests would like it too. Decaf is +₩1,000, you can switch to oat milk, and the teas are made with organic products, they say.
We ordered one flat white, one apple ade, a matcha Basque cheesecake and a black sesame Basque cheesecake.

We settled into a seat with a nice view and took photos first, and they came out clean, which put me in a good mood :)

How the iced flat white and apple ade taste
The iced flat white arrived with the ice slightly melted, but it was nutty and smooth, so I recommend it if you like lattes.

I ordered the apple ade because it's an unusual menu item. It has a slight apple cider vinegar soda taste, and it's fresh and cool, perfect for summer!

Matcha vs black sesame Basque cheesecake: which is sweeter?
At Forerest, the matcha Basque cheesecake is much sweeter than the black sesame one, while the black sesame is softer and nuttier. And finally, the signature: the black sesame cheesecake.

The matcha cheesecake.

See how thick it is even in cross-section? It looks dense and gooey just to the eye.

When I scooped the matcha Basque cheesecake with a fork, it was so dense it felt sticky. The matcha flavor isn't overpowering, it's subtle yet sweet, so yummy.. ❤️
It's so soft and dense that it leaves teeth marks. If it were just a bit colder, I think you could eat it like ice cream!
The black sesame Basque cheesecake was a little softer than the matcha, and its distinctive nutty aroma and texture were great, so I think older guests would like it too.

Sweetness goes matcha >>> black sesame. Honestly, I thought the dessert menu was so minimal that it'd be better with other breads or desserts, but once I tasted it, it was so delicious that I'd have no regrets coming just for this.

Who is Forerest in Uijeongbu right for?
Forerest has photo spots all around and a quiet atmosphere, so you can visit happily on a weekend or weekday :) If you're looking for a nature-feel café to enjoy with a child, or a place that allows pets, I think you'll be happy with this big Uijeongbu café.
