Sokcho Haemul Kkot Jangkalguksu is a jangkalguksu restaurant near Cheongcho Lake in Sokcho, Gangwon. The big signboard reading 'Haemul Kkot Jangkalguksu' made it easy to spot. We parked in the dedicated lot next to the building. Since you tend to get around by car a lot while traveling in Sokcho, having dedicated parking was really convenient! We visited during our babymoon, and since it's a good spot near Cheongcho Lake, I also liked that the route wasn't complicated :)

Visiting Sokcho Haemul Kkot Jangkalguksu with a baby

There were too many customers in the inner seats, so I couldn't take a photo there ㅠㅠ

The inside of Sokcho Haemul Kkot Jangkalguksu had a comfortable atmosphere for a meal. The tables weren't cramped, and it seemed like a fine spot to visit as a family! We went with our baby, and a baby chair was ready for us. Whether or not there's a baby chair really matters when eating out with a kid, right? Thanks to that, the meal wasn't much of a hassle. Also, this place allows pets, so anyone traveling in Sokcho with a pet might want to keep that in mind :)

Ordering the Special Seafood Flower Platter Shabu Jangkalguksu

What we ordered was the Special Seafood Flower Platter Shabu Jangkalguksu, ₩25,000 per person. It came as a big pot in the center with seafood, vegetables, meat, and noodles all prepared together.

Octopus, squid, blue crab, shrimp, shellfish, abalone, and scallops — it was clearly generous at a glance! The visual alone gave off a real travel feeling haha. The lineup was so full that I was satisfied from the first impression.

Cooking the seafood yourself at the table

Instructions on how to eat jangkalguksu placed on the table

On the table there were instructions on how to enjoy the jangkalguksu properly.

First you simmer the seafood and vegetables in the broth, then pull out whatever's cooked and eat it. Once it started boiling, the seafood aroma rose up and the broth got richer and richer.

Octopus and squid can turn chewy if boiled too long, so it was best to eat them right when they were properly cooked. The bouncy texture held up nicely and it was delicious.

Shabu meat cooked in the broth
The meat had soaked up all the broth flavor, so good ㅠㅠ

Meat came out too, which made it much more filling than seafood alone~

A hearty platter with one ginseng root per person

One ginseng root served per person

And a ginseng root per person also came out..! It's a small touch but it made the whole spread feel even more substantial ( ˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈ ). Being able to eat seafood, meat, vegetables and noodles all in one go made it a great meal during the trip. Especially when you're stuck deciding on dinner in Sokcho, I liked that you could enjoy a variety of things from just one pot without ordering several separate dishes ෆ

How the spicy jangkalguksu broth tasted

Jangkalguksu broth boiling with a spicy kick

The broth was spicy yet had great savory depth~! Maybe because of the seafood, it seemed to get deeper the longer it simmered.

Rich seafood jangkalguksu broth scooped up with a ladle

The broth wasn't too light, but it wasn't heavy or overwhelming either, so I kept going back for more.

After finishing the seafood and vegetables, we finished up by adding the kalguksu noodles.

Seafood jangkalguksu finished off with noodles

Once the noodles went in, the broth got even richer, so we could enjoy it deliciously right to the end..! Since this was a place we visited during our babymoon trip, being able to eat something warm and filling made it all the more satisfying ◝꒰´꒳`꒱◟
