Sokcho bar with sea cucumber jeotgal and steamed scallops: Seo Jubang

I got a few days off work recently and finally took a trip to Sokcho! Whenever I'm in Sokcho I love eating good food, looking out at the sea, and having a relaxed drink :)

What kind of bar is Seo Jubang on Sokcho's pojangmacha street?

The place I picked this trip is "Seo Jubang," over on Sokcho's pojangmacha (street food tent) street!

It's near Yeongnang Beach, so it's easy to stop by while sightseeing, and the vibe was comfortable enough for a casual meal and a drink!

What comes on the Sokcho juansang drinking platter?

What I ordered was the Sokcho drinking platter! True to its name, it's spread with all kinds of food that go well with drinks, so it was fun picking one dish at a time 👍🏻

They brought water and the basic side dishes first, and the orange water bottle was such a nostalgic touch hahaha, totally took me back to childhood!

When the platter came out, it was piled high with so many dishes the table filled up instantly?! Such a generous spread haha

Steamed scallops and sundae

First, the steamed scallops — plump, tender scallop meat, simple and easy to eat, and just right as a drinking snack!

Sundae (Korean blood sausage) came out too, and there were more dishes than I expected, so it was fun tasting each one!! Sokcho is actually famous for its sundae too, but you can't try every famous thing, right?! Getting it included here like this made me really happy :)

Seasoned squid and pollock roe potato salad

The tangy, appetite-sparking seasoned squid also paired well with drinks — it's normally served as squid sukhoe (parboiled squid), but I got it as muchim (seasoned) since they were a bit short on ingredients :)

With salty pollock roe on top of the potato salad, I naturally kept reaching for my glass!!

The stars: flounder makhoe and salted sea cucumber innards

Of everything, what I enjoyed most were the platter's main dishes — flounder mulhoe (raw fish salad) and salted sea cucumber innards 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 The flounder mulhoe had a chewy yet clean flavor, and the sea cucumber innards had that distinct deep sea aroma, kind of like sea squirt? Anyway it was delicious, and it paired really well eaten alongside the raw fish. If you love seafood like I do, I think you'd like it too.

Who is Seo Jubang best for?

When you travel, good food matters, but so does time to enjoy a drink with good snacks, right? :) Even the soju glasses were pretty, which put me in a good mood too. Since the platter lets you taste a little of everything, I loved that I didn't have to agonize over what to order 🫶🏻 The dishes overall pair well with drinks, so I think it's a great spot to visit in the evening for a drink.

If you're in Sokcho looking for a spot to have raw fish or seafood snacks with a drink, I think this place is worth a visit. It's especially nice if you're going with a group, since you can share a variety of dishes! 👍🏻 If you're looking for a group dinner spot on Sokcho's pojangmacha street, or just a place to have a relaxed drink while traveling like me, Seo Jubang!!!

From the steamed scallops to the sundae, seasoned squid, pollock roe potato salad, and the mains — flounder mulhoe and salted sea cucumber innards!!! Tasting my way through it all, the drinks really flowed :) With seafood snacks in Sokcho plus that travel atmosphere, it felt like a proper vacation evening for the first time in a while.
