Sokcho makguksu restaurant with two kids: deulmemak and potato jeon

Our little one loves buckwheat makguksu. And Sokcho has so many famous makguksu spots, right? Since we were already traveling, we figured we had to eat Gangwon-do makguksu — so we headed straight to a makguksu restaurant. The place I visited is "Sokcho Topgol Makguksu"!
Sokcho Topgol Makguksu hours and location
The Sokcho Topgol Makguksu main branch is open year-round: Mon-Fri 09:30-21:00 (last order 20:30), Sat-Sun 09:30-22:00 (last order 21:30). There's no break time, and they say they're open on weekends and holidays too unless there's a special family event. They also have high chairs.
Park at the public parking lot next to the restaurant and get 1 hour free.
The sign is right there as soon as you park in the public lot — super easy to find.
Sokcho Topgol Makguksu is right by Sokcho Beach and Sokcho Ai in downtown Sokcho, so the location is really great. If you're visiting Sokcho, this is basically a must-stop!
Can you bring a dog? Pet rules and the dining room
Sokcho Topgol Makguksu is pet-friendly. But to prevent shedding accidents, pets need to be in a carrier or a pet stroller with the cover securely fastened before entering — just so you know.
The interior is pretty spacious. There are a lot of tables with generous spacing between them, so it looked totally manageable to bring kids along.
They say it's the only perilla oil makguksu shop in Sokcho — the sacred ground of deulmemak (perilla oil makguksu), apparently. Curious what that meant, I looked closer and even spotted a signed autograph from mukbang YouTuber Hiicel haha.
Why Sokcho Topgol Makguksu is easy with kids: the baby-food microwave
The wide table spacing was nice, but there were also plenty of high chairs and kids' dishware, and having a microwave dedicated to baby food was such a thoughtful touch. It really was a great environment to visit with kids.
They even had yagwanmun tea (a Korean herbal tea) available, so you could look after your health self-serve!
There's a self-serve bar, so if you run out of side dishes while eating, you can just grab more yourself.

The side dishes come out first. This mul-kimchi (water kimchi) was honestly the highlight. It tasted homemade and was so good.
The kids' set: jjajangbap (black bean sauce rice) with a fried egg
First out was the kids' set. It's jjajangbap (black bean sauce rice) seasoned a bit lighter than the adult version, topped with a fried egg. Our kids are still young and couldn't finish one on their own, so we ordered just one and shared it.
Single-serving boiled pork and pollack salad
This single-serving boiled pork was basically the kids' dish too haha — our boys are total meat lovers! But that pollack salad and mu-malaengi (dried radish) were also delicious — the meat went to the boys, the red stuff to mom and dad haha.
Perilla oil buckwheat makguksu, known as deulmemak
And then out came the perilla oil buckwheat makguksu, aka deulmemak!
There's apparently a proper way to eat deulmemak — first plain as-is, then mixed thoroughly, then topped with the dried radish for the finishing touch.
A potato pancake as big as a large pizza
Last but not least, the potato pancake — do you see the size of that thing? Isn't that pizza large size?! They cut it with a pizza cutter. The potato pancake was chewy and so delicious, it really tasted healthy. A classic potato pancake, exactly our style! And of course it was great to feed the kids too.
The visuals are insane, right? We and the kids both got to have a delicious, healthy meal.

Plus, pets are allowed to enter, which is great for a trip. The food was delicious and the owner was really kind, so we left happy and full.
