Today I want to introduce a home-style Korean pub near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station that's perfect for gatherings, group dinners, or just a casual drink — Buchigom. The food is great, and so is the atmosphere, so I really wanted to recommend it.
Where Buchigom Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Branch is, and what the room feels like
Buchigom Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Branch is a 1-minute walk from Exit 4 of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station on Line 2. It's such a convenient spot for public transit that you don't even need to look up directions — it's that close.
Inside, the interior uses traditional latticed window patterns for a cozy yet refined mood.
Ordering by tablet: what comes in Set 1
At Buchigom, once you sit down, you can browse the menu and order conveniently through the tablet PC placed at each table. Every dish comes with an appetizing photo, which made choosing so much easier.
They also run a nice event where writing a Naver receipt review gets you a free injeolmi (sweet rice cake) ice cream — if you visit, make sure to join in for a sweet dessert too.
I ordered Set 1 (raw whelk bossam salad + original minari pancake), which lets you try Buchigom's signature dishes all at once, plus I added a 4-makgeolli flight.
Once you order, the basic side dish of cabbage with ssamjang, plus dipping sauces for the pancake, are set out first.
Which four makgeolli are in the flight?
Soon after, 4 glasses of makgeolli (Korean rice wine) arrived in pretty glass cups — Buchigom Makgeolli, Chiaksan, Sobaeksan, and Albam Makgeolli, four completely different types. When you order makgeolli by the bottle, you often end up too full or stuck with just one flavor, so it was a really clever, nice touch to be able to sample several kinds in small amounts and find the one that suits your taste.
The original minari pancake fills the whole serving tray
The 'original minari (water dropwort) pancake' is overwhelmingly large, filling an entire big tray. The moment it lands on the table, the fragrant scent of minari drifts up. You're given scissors and tongs to cut it into bite-sized pieces. With minimal batter and plenty of minari packed in, it was crispy outside and moist inside — truly excellent texture.
Dip the pancake into the savory soy-based sauce, and the fragrant minari flavor fills your mouth — I don't think there's a more perfect pairing for a cold makgeolli or soju.
How to eat the raw whelk bossam salad
Just as I was marveling at the minari pancake, today's main dish, the 'raw whelk bossam salad,' arrived — plated generously and appetizingly on a big plate.
On one side of the plate is tender, glossy bossam (boiled pork), and next to it a mountain of spicy-seasoned raw whelk salad, along with two bundles of thin noodles (somyeon), white kimchi, perilla leaves, and flying fish roe for a bit of popping texture — all on one plate.
Mix the noodles evenly into the whelk salad sauce with your chopsticks, and you get a mouthwatering result.
Lay down a fragrant perilla leaf, add a slice of tender bossam pork, crisp refreshing white kimchi, savory whelk salad and chewy noodles, and finish with a generous helping of flying fish roe — then wrap it all up into one big bite.
The combination works extremely well and delivers a fantastic bite. The harmony of bossam, whelk salad, and white kimchi is a work of art.
