Oncheon-dong hair salon: cowlick fix + side-bang layered perm, Chamer

My side bangs are drooping like seaweed and the back of my hair is stuck flat to my face, so a light, voluminous layered perm is an emergency 🚨 And for that, I'm heading to Chamer (차메르), the Dongnae hair salon where the golden-handed Director Ain works. Let's goooo!!!

Parking and how to find Chamer in Dongnae

Chamer has its own parking lot on the building's 1st floor, so it's easy to get your treatment even if you drive 💕

After you park, just head up to the 2nd floor of Sehyeon Sangga A, the building on the far right 🎶😉

Chamer is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., except for its weekly closing day on Tuesday.

What's the inside of Chamer like?

The moment you step into Chamer you see an interior dripping with luxury. How did they decorate it so stylishly~ 💕

The waiting area for customers is decorated with so much atmosphere, and they even spray fragrant oil on the pebbles out front, so your mood lifts as soon as you walk in. That's our little secret 💗

The hair treatment area is split into front and back sections, and the layout is built so staff can focus on each customer one by one rather than packing in lots of people at once, which made me trust the place 👍🏻

I'm planning to bring back the side volume that has gone flat and also curl my side bangs~~ Chamer even has a separate space for rolling perms, so you can sit in a cushy chair while you get your perm.

Straight, flippy hair: how was the cut tidied before the layered perm?

Before the layered perm, Director Ain at Chamer checked my hair condition with a shampoo, then tidied the flippy ends and side bangs that come from my straight hair so the curls would come out well. I hadn't brought any reference photo, but through the consultation we went with a layered perm that balances my face shape and shows off natural curls.

First, they gave me a light shampoo to check my current hair condition 🫧🧼 They cover your eyes and put a blanket over you in the cozy shampoo room, and it just feels so good 😚

With my hair wet, they looked at the perm I had left, my hair condition and the exact state of my previous cut, and trimmed it so the curls would come out as well as possible.

My hair is basically straight, so it tends to shoot outward. She spotted that, tidied the ends that had been flipping out, and cut my side bangs prettily 🎶😉

The cut I got at my previous salon had slightly weak connections, so adding more heavy layers wasn't possible, and we wrapped up with this neat tidy-up~ Even this much already felt tidier. Add curls on top and it'll be so pretty, right 💗

No clinic upsell during the perm

What I personally liked here: at other salons, the moment you say you want a perm they always bring up getting a clinic treatment too, but Chamer didn't mention a clinic at all, so as a customer I felt no pressure and loved it..!!

To make the pretty perm show up better, they thoroughly applied softening lotion to wipe out every bit of my leftover perm. They also stuck a face cover on so none of the product touched my face, which was so sweet 😍

A front cowlick that swings sideways: full bangs or side bangs?

Looking at my face shape and hairline, Director Ain at Chamer recommended side bangs over straight bangs, and applied the product while holding down the direction of my flipping front hair. The cowlick at my front hairline is one of my biggest hair stresses, and it swings around like this~! I kept agonizing over whether to just cut full bangs..?? or go with side bangs??..🥲

The director said side bangs suit my face shape much better than full bangs, so I decided on side bangs 👍🏻 She understood my worry and applied the product while holding the flipping hair down as much as possible, and I was so moved 😍

Drinks and snacks while you wait

After the softening lotion goes on, heat is applied for a while, and in case waiting would be boring they brought out a cold drink and snacks 😋 There's even a drink menu like a café, with coffee, tea and juice, and I wanted all of it 😝 They also gave me little nibbles, so my mouth never got bored.

When the softening step is done, they check the condition once more, and if it looks good, back to the shampoo room we go!! While washing, they carefully checked the 🌡️ water temperature now and then and asked if any spot was itchy, so I felt Chamer is delicate in every way.

Since it's a heat perm, Chamer's staff generously and evenly applied heat protection essence to protect my hair as much as possible 😚💕 While drying, they also gave me a shield so water wouldn't splash my face, so I could watch my hair being dried with my eyes wide open hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Ooooh!!! Amazing~~~ Director Ain held my bangs down so well that they fall straight and pretty without flipping 👏🏻👏🏻

How does Chamer roll its Elizabeth layered perm?

Chamer's layered perm adjusts curl thickness by rolling with different rods in each section. It's a full layered perm, but she rolled each bit of hair so carefully that I thought, no wonder she's the layered perm master director.

Again she double-checked whether anything felt too hot and whether the curls had come out well overall, removed all the cords, and after a short wait~~~ she pulled my hair firmly with a flat iron to erase any marks and let the curls come out more naturally.

Finally, the neutralizing step that finishes the perm! At Chamer you can get neutralizing without changing seats. I could feel her working very carefully so the curls wouldn't droop during neutralizing. She was especially careful that my bang direction wouldn't flip back again, and if my bangs come out like this I'll be so happy 😚🎶

To finish, they used a hair mask pack that replenishes moisture in hair damaged by dye and heat perms. Since I'm hopeless with styling, she very kindly explained, specifically and simply, how to dry my hair and how to care for the bangs calmed down by the direction correction.

Layered perm result: C-curl at the back, CS-curl at the sides

The result of my Chamer layered perm was a C-curl at the back that you can just shake dry naturally, and a CS-curl at the sides with extra volume. Oooh, I understood right away why this is the layered perm place!! The Elizabeth perm place!! Since my face is on the thin side, she gave the sides more volume with CS-curls to make me look lively.

My hair also had almost no damage. Director Ain at Chamer really does the treatment with minimal damage, even without a separate clinic 💗
