An evening spent at Yaksamgol, a pork belly restaurant I found in Yakmok, Chilgok!!! After a busy day there are those days when you just crave a piece of meat, right? Especially when you think about pork belly grilled to a nice golden brown and the sizzle of the grill... your feet just carry you toward a BBQ place haha

This time I visited Yaksamgol, a spot in Yakmok, Chilgok, where you can enjoy pork belly.

What I liked from the moment I walked in was the cozy, welcoming atmosphere haha. Eating a clean meal indoors is nice, but grilling meat while looking out at the outdoor scenery has its own charm too. Once the meat was set on the table and the grill started heating up, the real dinner began haha

How thick-cut pork belly grills up crisp outside and juicy inside

The pork belly at Yaksamgol Garden comes sliced thick. As soon as it hits the grill you hear that sizzle. I really love that moment. As the meat cooks, a savory smell rises and the edges start turning golden brown, and watching that happen, the fatigue from the day just seemed to melt away — it felt so good.

Pork belly really is pork belly!!! Rather than grilling it too crispy, it's tastiest when it's 🥧 crispy outside, juicy inside haha. I cut off a piece, popped it in my mouth, and could taste the savory juices... adding the grilled garlic on the side made the flavor even richer.

Pork belly with chive salad and grilled sausage

Pork belly... eating just meat nonstop can get a little heavy, but pairing it with something tangy like the chive salad made my palate feel a lot cleaner.

A piece of meat, a bit of chive salad on top, then another piece of meat. Doesn't sound like much, but this combo kept making my chopsticks go back for more.

And I can't leave out the sausage grilled alongside it, right? The sausage, browned nicely, had a different flavor from the meat, so it was great to have in between bites. If you're eating with family, it seemed like a menu kids could enjoy without any fuss too — that made this Yaksamgol in Yakmok, Chilgok even better. And what I liked about Yaksamgol wasn't just the food.

What the outdoor tables among the trees and flowers are like

Eating delicious food matters, but doesn't the same meal feel different depending on who you're with and what kind of atmosphere you're in?

The trees and flowers around... and the relaxed atmosphere the outdoor space creates made mealtime feel a bit more unhurried.

It doesn't have to be a special occasion. How about a plate of good pork belly and a glass of soju after work? Just chatting away with family is more than enough to make it a good evening haha

Pork neck or pork belly at Yaksamgol Garden — which was better?

Thinking about it, the moments we remember for a long time often come from ordinary meals like this rather than grand trips or special events. After finishing a delicious piece of meat, it felt like a small comfort saying today was a good day, and it warmed my heart too.

After finishing a plate of pork belly, what else to eat? Should I try the pork neck? Grilling pork neck with sausage together is also really good, but honestly, between the two, I'd give my vote to the thick pork belly!!!

Yakmok's go-to meat spot, Yakmok's go-to pork belly spot, Yaksamgol, has a special service I really loved. What kind of service? Sweet potatoes roasted fresh right in the blazing fire haha. Truly piping hot sweet potatoes, absolutely the best.
