Daehangno western restaurant more kid-friendly than Hongdae: Omil

When picking a weekend or weekday date course on Daehangno, Omil (오밀, meaning "oh! meal") is a visually stunning restaurant that's great for couples and for kids alike!

I've always loved the original Omil in Hongdae, and we'd stop by whenever we took the kids there — turns out there's an Omil on Daehangno too!

So happy to see it — I'd been to the Hongdae Oh! Meal with the kids before, but my husband had never tried it, so since we were already on Daehangno, we all went together!

How long is the wait at Omil Hyehwa Daehangno?

Omil is a hot spot in Hongdae too, and the wait there is always at least 30 minutes, so I was a bit worried heading into the Daehangno branch — but great timing, it was only about a 15-minute wait (which honestly counts as basically no wait), so we went exploring Daehangno while we waited.

Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is only about a 2-minute walk from Hyehwa Station Exit 4, and since the area is packed with things to see and do, even just a quick stop at a gacha (capsule toy) shop made the 15 minutes fly by. We also managed to scarf down a cotton candy at lightning speed!

After 15 minutes, we were in! Omil's signature cute, warm vibe carries through from the entrance to every little prop inside — it's impossible not to smile.

One tip: Omil Hyehwa Daehangno also takes Naver Reservations, so if you're planning to visit on a weekend or in the evening, I'd recommend booking ahead!

How Omil Hyehwa Daehangno differs from Hongdae: families with kids

Every time a dish arrived at the table, we couldn't help but yell out in reaction — the visuals are just that cute. The first time I went to the Hongdae Omil, I honestly wondered how I was even supposed to eat something so adorable.

But once you know how good it tastes, you just want to dig in fast! Compared to Hongdae, where it was mostly couples, romantic pairs, and friend groups, the Daehangno Omil had way more customers who'd come with their kids.

if you're looking for a good restaurant on Daehangno for lunch, brunch, or a pasta dinner, this is a great spot to hit before or after a show or play.

What to order at Omil: cheese katsu, rubber-duck omurice, bacon cream pasta

If I had to recommend dishes: the cheese katsu, sizzling on a piping hot iron plate with bubbling cheese and juicy meat, comes with the cheese poured on right at the table — fun to watch, so get your phone camera ready!

A must-order at every table — the rubber-duck omurice needs no introduction. The fluffy swirl-shaped omurice is filled with salmon fried rice, and the quail eggs on top are just too cute.

There are several kinds of pasta too — today we had the bacon cream pasta, with a rich porcini mushroom cream sauce paired with salty bacon,

and it was delicious!! (Honestly, with visuals like that, how could it not be.) I think I've tried nearly everything on the Omil menu except the salmon steak and gnocchi, and it's all been good!

It's impossible not to take photos at Omil — and since kids love it even more when you bring them, we keep finding ourselves back here.

The pineapple juice has a uniquely designed cup — the moment it lands on the table, it grabs all the attention. A detail that keeps you smiling the whole time you drink it!
