I went to Gwangjang Market for the first time in ages. Ever since moving out to Gyeonggi-do, a trip to Seoul means actually setting a date and going. Today's destination was Gwangjang Market. While happily wandering around looking for good eats, I heard there was a dessert spot worth trying — Ssuk's Choco Pie Seoul. I went in knowing it was famous as part of the Jongno bakery pilgrimage, but as a dessert lover, the visuals alone were impossible to walk past.

True to its fame as part of the Jongno bakery pilgrimage, the store's vibe was pretty and well put together, almost like a souvenir shop.
Besides choco pies, there were cookies and scones on display, and cookies can be included and packed into the gift sets.
They also had cheesecake, so this place is basically heaven if you love dessert.

How the Udo peanut choco pie tastes
The Udo peanut choco pie has soft, uncoated bread on the outside with crushed peanut cream sprinkled on top.
Instead, the chocolate is drizzled over the cream, and — probably thanks to good-quality chocolate — you get a strong, rich chocolate scent paired with a strong peanut aroma.
The outer bread has a soft, sponge-like texture that pairs well with the smooth cream.
The texture of the sea-breeze mugwort injeolmi choco pie
The sea-breeze mugwort injeolmi has soybean powder dusted on the outside and a chocolate coating underneath, which gives it a fun, almost injeolmi-toast feel.
The thin chocolate coating, the bread with its strong mugwort aroma, the sweet soft cream, and the chewy injeolmi rice cake inside all came together beautifully. The chewiness of the injeolmi rice cake inside was especially good — that mix of moist and chewy was just delicious.
Gwangju real chocolate pie and the final verdict on Ssuk's Choco Pie Seoul
My husband, who loves chocolate, snatched the real chocolate one from me, but it truly has that deep, dark chocolate look.
Honestly, choco pie has a certain expected flavor, but this went way beyond that — so soft and moist that I ate it up happily. Even though I'm on a diet, I finished two of them in five minutes flat, sitting right there. Haha.
It was so good I almost ate them all myself, but I shared some with my sister and husband, and everyone loved this Gwangjang Market favorite, Ssuk's Choco Pie. True to its reputation as a top Gwangjang Market dessert spot, the quality was great, and best of all, even kids who don't like mugwort can enjoy it. Not a single flavor here was bad. Next time I visit, I definitely want to try the Nonsan strawberry one, which was sold out this time.
