In short
Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is a rubber-duck-themed western restaurant on the second floor of a building about 3 minutes on foot from Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station in Jongno, Seoul. Three of us shared gochujang butter pasta at 18,900 won, rubber duck omurice at 16,900 won and cheese katsu on a sizzling plate at 19,900 won, all ordered a la carte, plus a free basil tomato ade from the review event. This time I went on a Daehangno date and stumbled onto Omil Hyehwa Daehangno — the visuals alone caught my eye 🫶

There are really so many pasta places in Hyehwa, but this one stuck in my memory because everything — the food, the interior, even the tableware — was cute down to the last detail. There are a lot of points kids would love too, so if you're looking for a Hyehwa restaurant to bring kids to as well as a date spot, this might help 🌸

Where is Omil Hyehwa Daehangno and when is it open?

It's not far from Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station, so it's a fine spot to stop by before or after seeing a play.

At first I almost walked past because I only looked at the first floor — Omil is on the 2nd floor of the building!

You can spot the rubber duck omurice poster from outside, so it was easy to find 🐥

There are cute posters on the wall as you head up to the 2nd floor too. Honestly, by this point I'd already decided I was ordering the omurice haha
Is Omil Hyehwa Daehangno a good Daehangno date spot?

The colors are so cute right from the entrance!! The yellow door with its rounded design was decent for photos too.

Inside there were more seats than I expected. It's mostly white and wood, so it's clean, but pops of yellow and character designs here and there keep it from feeling too plain 🌼

When I visited there was a mix of couples and families. Since baby chairs are on hand, it looks like a good option if you're searching for a place to eat with kids in Hyehwa. It's also positioned well for eating before heading to a Daehangno play or show, so it fits perfectly into a Hyehwa date course!

On one side there was a self-service bar with water and pickles to grab. Even the pickle container was pink, which made me look twice lol. Phone chargers were also ready!
Omil Hyehwa Daehangno menu and what we paid

The menu had more variety than I expected — pasta, omurice, risotto, and gnocchi. What I ordered was:
- 🍝 Gochujang butter pasta ₩18,900
- 🐥 Rubber duck omurice ₩16,900
- 🧀 Cheese katsu on hot plate ₩19,900
These three! Prices weren't too heavy for a Daehangno western restaurant.

There was also a review event running where you get one free ade for writing a Naver receipt review or a Google Maps review. When I visited, the choices were cherry / pineapple / basil & tomato ade 🍹
Cheese katsu on a hot plate, 19,900 won
The cheese katsu came out first! It arrived still bubbling on the hot plate, so the visuals were on point right away 🔥
The pork cutlet was topped with plenty of cheese sauce, plus corn, broccoli, and cherry tomatoes. There was a generous amount of sauce, so it stayed moist to the last bite.

I worried it might be too greasy since it's cheese, but it wasn't as heavy as expected, and the smooth sauce went well with it. It seemed like a dish kids would love too, so it looked good to share if you're visiting Hyehwa with a kid 🫶
Rubber duck omurice, 16,900 won

And the one I'd been waiting for — rubber duck omurice‼️ You just start taking photos the moment it arrives lol. Tiny ducks are gathered on top of the omurice, and it was way cuter than I expected. From the plate to the mini tube duck to the parasol — the concept was on point 🐥⛱️

Each little duck has a slightly different expression, which is a cute touch too lol. By the way, the small ducks on top are quail eggs! The beaks are made of corn, so it almost felt too pretty to eat 🥹
But I ate it anyway haha
When you cut into the egg, there's fried rice inside. Scooping up the soft egg, fried rice, and sauce together made a familiar yet tasty combination! I thought it might just be a pretty-looking dish, but the taste was solidly good too, which was satisfying.

And the rubber duck tube prop that came with it was mine to take home 🐥💚 Little touches like this would make it especially fun to visit with kids haha
Gochujang butter pasta, 18,900 won

And the one I was most looking forward to that day — gochujang butter pasta! From the name I expected a strong gochujang (Korean chili paste) flavor, but it turned out creamier than expected, with gochujang's savory depth woven in. There was also a generous amount of meat on top.

The meat was thicker than expected, which I liked, and it held its own alongside the pasta 🥩 Mixing the butter in the center into the sauce made it even richer. The thick sauce clung to the noodles nicely, and honestly, of everything I had that day, the gochujang butter pasta was most to my taste 🙌 The spiciness wasn't too strong either, so even people who can't handle spice should be fine with it!

If you're looking for something a bit different from the usual tomato or cream pastas common in Hyehwa, I'd recommend this one.
Free basil tomato ade from the review event

I also had the basil tomato ade from the review event 🌿🍅 At first I couldn't quite picture what basil and tomato in a drink would taste like, but it was way fresher and cleaner than I expected.
The tomato's sweet-tart flavor came with a subtle hint of basil, which was refreshing to sip between rich dishes like the gochujang butter pasta and cheese katsu 🙌 It's a bit different from a typical ade, so it's worth trying once if you visit Omil.
How the three dishes worked together for three people
All three dishes we ordered that day had distinctly different characters, so they were great to share among three people. The gochujang butter pasta was thick and mildly spicy, the rubber duck omurice was soft and mild, and the cheese katsu was rich and savory — a nice combination 🙌 More than anything, this isn't a place that's just pretty to look at — it was genuinely satisfying to eat too.

If you're looking for a Hyehwa pasta restaurant before or after a play or show, a cute-vibe Hyehwa date restaurant, or a Hyehwa spot to visit with kids, Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is worth a stop 🫰
