Garlic, honey and butter naan at Bollywood, a Gwangalli curry spot

A lunch spot near Gwangalli Beach: Bollywood, an authentic Indian curry restaurant.

Hi everyone! It's Uto~ A while back I went to Gwangalli Beach and stopped for lunch at Bollywood, well known as an authentic Indian curry restaurant in Gwangalli, haha.

It was my first time trying Indian curry, so I went in half excited, half nervous, but once I tasted it, I loved how naturally the spices blended together! My friend, who's a big fan of Indian curry, also loved it — a real Gwangalli find, haha.

Where is Bollywood, and what is the 2nd-floor dining room like?

Bollywood is located at 9 Gwangnam-ro 130beon-gil, Suyeong-gu, Busan, on the 2nd floor. You can see the beach right from the alley it's on, and it's less than a 5-minute walk to the beach, so the location is really convenient! By the way, the door on the 2nd floor is wide open, so I wondered if they had no air conditioning... but it turns out that visible area is actually the kitchen! The inside is fully air-conditioned, so no need to worry, haha.

This is a photo taken near the 2nd-floor entrance! Turns out you can do shisha (hookah) here too, haha. It's a Gwangalli restaurant where you can experience not just different food, but a different culture too!

This is what the inside of Bollywood looks like! Rather than bright lighting flooding the whole space, the light mostly highlights the tables and their surroundings. It's decorated with Indian movie posters, items, and patterned fabrics. Since it's truly an authentic Indian curry restaurant, the atmosphere really is different from a typical Korean restaurant — it felt like being on a trip, which was fun, haha.

On one side there's a bar table with a dark, moody vibe that looks great for cocktails, plus group seating! I visited for lunch, but I think coming in the evening would have a nice atmosphere too, haha.

Bollywood's menu and how much two people should order

This is Bollywood's menu! There's a couple set for two people, a 3-person set good for friends, and a family set too. Looking at individual items, there are appetizers like samosas and homemade onion fritters, salads, and a wide variety of curries based on chicken, cheese, lamb, vegetables, shrimp, and more!!

Each main ingredient has 3-4 different curry options, so the range of curry choices was reeeeally wide, haha. There are also several types of naan and rice! The rice is made with biryani rice, so the whole lineup lets you experience authentic Indian curry properly.

After a lot of deliberating, we ordered the butter chicken curry, the coconut shrimp curry, and garlic naan, honey naan, and butter naan. That's 2 curries and 3 naans for 2 people, and the portion was just right, maybe a little on the generous side! If you don't eat much, ordering just 2 naans should be plenty, haha.

How does Bollywood's butter chicken curry taste?

After waiting about 10 minutes, all the curries and naan we ordered came out, and for me, the butter chicken curry was the tastiest! I picked up on all kinds of new and unfamiliar spice aromas, but instead of any one flavor sticking out, they all blended together into a fresh new savoriness and fragrance!!

The chicken pieces inside had a slightly smoky flavor too. The meat was tender and juicy, making it a truly delicious curry down to the very last bite!!

I'd recommend having it with garlic naan, haha. Honey naan works well too, for a sweet-and-savory combo!

What the coconut shrimp curry at Bollywood tastes like

Next up, the coconut shrimp curry! This one had a rich, smooth coconut flavor and generous shrimp toppings that I really liked.

The coconut shrimp curry also had its own distinct spice flavor and aroma! Not quite as good as the butter chicken curry, but this one was different and delicious too, haha. This dish paired better with honey naan or butter naan than with garlic naan!!

Garlic, honey or butter naan: which naan paired best with which curry?

All of Bollywood's naan was chewy and went well with the curries. My personal pick was the garlic naan, with its subtle, fragrant garlic aroma!! It went really well with the butter chicken curry. Even eaten on its own, that gentle garlic scent was totally my thing.

That chewy, fragrant taste... I want it again, haha.

Next is my second pick, and my friend's absolute favorite — the honey naan!!

This honey naan also went well with all the curries, and its slight sweetness blending with the curry made for the perfect sweet-and-savory combo! I'd definitely recommend trying this honey naan too!!

Lastly, the butter naan! You can see how glossy and buttery it looks, right?!

This butter naan paired really well with the coconut shrimp curry, haha. Personally, I'd recommend the garlic naan and honey naan, haha. Next time I want to try the garlic butter naan too!!
