Green onion clam bossam hot pot in Yeouido: Gaetbeol-ui Jogae

Gaetbeol-ui Jogae Yeouido Main Branch is a clam and seafood hot pot restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Geukdong VIP Building, near Exit 1 of National Assembly Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. On a suddenly cold day, the blogger ordered the small green onion clam bossam and corn cheese: a clear hot pot of pork neck-shoulder, manila clams, white clams and red scallops layered on green onions, eaten with self-serve barley rice. For a hot, clean broth with pork and clams in one pot, the green onion clam bossam at Gaetbeol-ui Jogae is a good fit.

Songpa Korean BBQ lunch after an India trip: pork galbi set, Hantiok

Hantiok (한티옥) is a charcoal-grilled galbi Korean restaurant near Exit 4 of Bangi Station in Songpa, Seoul, close to Olympic Park. Back from a trip to India and needing to recharge, the blogger had the Korean pork galbi set (55,000 won) for lunch and added a single order of marinated LA galbi (29,000 won); the smoky, tender galbi, the gukbap-style Andong broth and the green onion kimchi stood out. For a hearty meat lunch in Bangi-dong, the Hantiok pork galbi set is a safe choice.

Mild monkfish stew for brothers on an Olympic Park walk: Ttoksuni

Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil Direct Branch (똑순이아구찜) is a monkfish stew (agujjim) restaurant in Bangi-dong, Songpa, Seoul, near exit 3 of Hanseongbaekje Station. On a weekend, the writer and a brother who can't handle much spice ordered the 2-person medium Ttoksuni agujjim (48,000 won) in the mild version, enjoyed side dishes including seaweed soup and fried chili crisps, finished with plum tea and then walked in Olympic Park. Because the spice level is adjustable, Ttoksuni Agujjim is a good monkfish stew spot for spice-shy eaters and heat lovers to share.

Seolleung Station eel restaurant: post-birthday recharge lunch, Manmok

Manmok (만목) is a Kanto-style eel rice bowl restaurant in an alley near Exit 2 of Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul. On a low-energy day, Manmok's whole eel bowl is worth recommending as a restorative lunch.

Friday Korean BBQ in Hapjeong and a Han River sunset walk: Jeongyukdo

Jeongyukdo is a second-floor Korean BBQ restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, about a 5-minute walk from Hapjeong Station Exit 5. On a Friday evening the writer and a friend had Jeongyukdo's Handon (Korean pork) set of fresh pork ribs, premium pork neck and pork belly, added marinated pork galbi, then walked to the nearby Han River for the sunset. Jeongyukdo's roomy, tidy dining room makes for a relaxed meal, and the Han River walk afterward rounds out a satisfying Hapjeong evening.
