Seafood takeaway in Sokcho: red snow crab lunchbox at Yes Susan
In short
Yes Susan is a seafood shop in stall 124 on the first floor of Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. I took a prepared red snow crab lunchbox back to our accommodation with my child; the crab was convenient to eat and pleasantly sweet-salty, while the crab-shell rice was mild enough for us to share.

During our trip to Sokcho, I stopped by Jungang Market because I wanted to eat red snow crab. Having a full king crab meal at a restaurant with my child felt both expensive and cumbersome, so I got a red snow crab lunchbox to go from Yes Susan (예스수산).

Where is Yes Susan in Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market?
Yes Susan is in stall 124 on the first floor of Tourist & Fishery Market, commonly called Sokcho Jungang Market. Its address is 16 Jungang-ro 147beon-gil, Sokcho-si, Gangwon State.

It was in a spot that was easy to miss if you only followed the market’s main route. I found it by going up the slightly uphill path beside an area that looked like a stage inside the market.

Where did I park at Sokcho Jungang Market?
We used the Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market Public Parking Lot. It was close to the market, so it was convenient to leave the car there and browse the food stalls.

At the time of my visit, parking was ₩300 for the first 30 minutes and ₩200 per additional 10 minutes, with a daily maximum of ₩6,000. There were plenty of spaces when I visited on a weekday, though it may be harder to find a space on weekends.

What were the red snow crab lunchbox price and packaging like?
The red snow crab lunchbox I chose was ₩25,000. We wanted to try red snow crab in Sokcho, but ordering a full king crab meal at a restaurant felt burdensome, so it suited us well.

Taking a child to a restaurant and preparing crab at the table also felt a little cumbersome. The red snow crab lunchbox was prepared for easy eating and packed up, which made it good for taking back to our accommodation.

The takeaway food came in a bright orange shopping bag. I liked the color, and it was easy to carry around.

How did the red snow crab taste at our accommodation?
Because the price seemed reasonable, I was also curious about the taste and freshness. When we ate it at our accommodation, the crab meat tasted fresh, with a gently sweet and salty flavor.

When you buy crab and eat it yourself, peeling and preparing it takes time. This time, it was easy because we brought it back already prepared.

What I especially liked was being able to open the package and eat it right away at our accommodation.

How did we share the crab-shell rice with my child?
At first, I wondered whether the crab-shell rice would be heavily seasoned, but it was milder and less salty than I expected. My child ate it well when I wrapped it in gim (roasted seaweed), and finished a whole container.

After serving my child’s portion first, the adults mixed a little of the crab-shell broth included in the red snow crab package into the rice. The broth made the crab-shell flavor richer, saltier, and nuttier, which suited our taste.
Would I get the red snow crab lunchbox again?
I was satisfied with both the price and taste of this red snow crab lunchbox. What stayed with me most was being able to take prepared food back to our accommodation and eat it comfortably while traveling with my child.

The crab-shell rice was not too strongly seasoned for our family’s taste, so it was easy to share. If I were looking for something to take from the market and eat at our accommodation, this is a lunchbox I would choose again.

Next time, I would also like to get a king crab lunchbox to go.
