Jongno blind date restaurant with curtained tables: Suksseong Susan

In short

Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is an aged sashimi restaurant on the 3rd floor of the food alley by Exit 4 of Jongak Station in Jongno, Seoul. While watching her diet, the writer ordered the aged sashimi set for two (small) at 69,000 won and cuttlefish mulhoe, raw fish in cold broth, at 39,000 won, eaten in a booth curtained off from the rest of the room. Between the thick cuts that arrive with fish species name tags and the guilt-free cuttlefish mulhoe, Suksseong Susan is an easy pick for a blind date in Jongno.

Since I've gotten back into working out, I've been watching my diet, and that means I'm picking healthier options when I eat out too. Trying to decide what to eat, I figured seafood would feel lighter than meat, so I went to Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch, famous around Jongno for its aged sashimi~~~

Where is Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch, and when is it open?

Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is on the 3rd floor of 16 Samil-daero 19-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul — you'll spot it as you walk through the food alley from Exit 4 of Jongak Station. Hours are Mon–Fri 11am to midnight, Sat–Sun 12pm to midnight.

Walk straight out of Exit 4 of Jongak Station and you'll hit the food alley — keep walking and you'll see the Suksseong Susan sign on the 3rd floor.

It's an alley packed with bars, so all the signs can get confusing — just look for their standing signboard! haha

Climb the stairs all the way to the 3rd floor and you'll see this adorable logo of a bear fishing — if you see it, you've found the right place!

Why Suksseong Susan works for a blind date: curtained private booths

Every table at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is partitioned off for privacy. As soon as staff showed me to my table, I thought: this is genuinely the best spot for anyone stressing about where to have a blind date near Jongak Station. Why? Because it's the perfect space to focus on each other!

Each table has its own curtain you can pull shut, so once you sit down and draw it, it feels like you've rented the whole place out><

Curtained private table seating

The seats were spacious too — plenty of room for two, comfortably fits up to four. There's also separate group seating, so it'd be great for gatherings too. And the lighting is so pretty haha. Guys looking for a blind date spot near Jongak Station, I recommend Suksseong Susan! haha

The complimentary soft tofu and green peas were totally my style too♥

You order using the kiosk placed at each table! We went with Suksseong Susan's signature aged sashimi and the cuttlefish mulhoe that's apparently their bestseller these days★

I'm honestly always the person most curious about which fish I'm eating whenever I have sashimi. If you're someone who nods along to the explanation but still can't tell one fish from another, pay attention — the aged sashimi at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch comes with every fish species clearly labeled.

Such a genuinely great touch! No matter how good something tastes, if you don't know what it is, you won't remember it next time! haha

After eating here, I feel like I finally learned the names of every fish I've ever eaten haha. The plating was so colorful and pretty too, perfect for a blind date menu. Usually on a date, even if you're eating something heavy, you can barely tell if it's going in your nose or your mouth haha, but with elegant single bites like this, it's honestly the best menu choice~

A bite of flounder... totally plump and springy, the best. Sashimi really does taste better aged! Fresh raw fish eaten right away is great too, but aged sashimi has its own deep flavor.

Sashimi should be cut this thick — great chewy texture when you bite in!

Every single slice of aged sashimi at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch was this thick, so the chewing was satisfying. Maybe because it's aged, it gets more savory and chewy the more you chew, so good ㅠㅠ Every single bite was a winner♥

The monkfish liver served alongside was nutty and delicious, and this caviar-looking sea grape thing popped in my mouth — such a special treat.

Cuttlefish mulhoe, 39,000 won: guilt-free while watching your diet

The visuals were insane. The moment the cuttlefish mulhoe arrived, it was overwhelming.

Loaded with various vegetables and chewy, springy cuttlefish sashimi, combined with nutty bean flour and a sweet-and-tangy sauce — such a refreshing cuttlefish mulhoe!! They told us it's today's bestseller, and it definitely has that flavor that revives your appetite when you're not that hungry.

It even came with springy thin noodles, so it tasted great while not messing up my health goals!! Something about eating it felt guilt-free haha. If you're struggling to decide what to eat while dieting, I totally recommend this!!

Suksseong Susan was also running a receipt event — if you're on the fence about doing it, just do it, no question. This croquette they give for the review event is genuinely insane ㅠㅠ Soft crab cream just melts and disappears in your mouth.

My mouth was happy and the vibe was great the whole time at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch! It's a great aged sashimi restaurant near Jongak Station, but I'd recommend it even more as a blind date spot haha. Such a happy day discovering this hidden gem. Definitely coming back next time I'm craving aged sashimi~~
