Jongno lunch Korean BBQ set for two over charcoal: Jonggak-ap Nosang

In short

Jonggak-ap Nosang Gongyeong Juchajang is a hanwoo (Korean beef) and pork Korean BBQ restaurant on the 5th floor of a building near Jonggak Station Exit 4 in Jongno, Seoul. Two of us had the recommended lunch set of hanwoo, pork neck and pork belly, plus kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice and half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles), with staff grilling everything over charcoal so we could just sit and talk. Jonggak-ap Nosang is worth a look for a filling lunch or a team dinner near Jonggak Station.

I had a hearty meat lunch in Jongno today 🥩 This time I visited Jonggak-ap Nosang Gongyeong Juchajang.

First photo from the visit to Jonggak-ap Nosang Gongyeong Juchajang

It's close to Jonggak Station Exit 4, so it was easy to get to, and since you can enjoy both hanwoo (Korean beef) and pork here, I decided to try it for lunch as a Jongno favorite. It's on the 5th floor of the building, and the wooden door made an impression from the entrance 👀

Inside Jonggak-ap Nosang: is the 5th-floor dining room comfortable for lunch for two?

🪑 Interior The whole place uses wood in the decor, giving it a warm, cozy feeling.

The lighting was soft too, and each table had high backs and partitions, so it felt somewhat separated from the next table! That made it good for a lunch for two, and I thought it would also work well for a work dinner or group gathering. Rather than the usual noisy BBQ restaurant vibe, it's a place where you can eat a bit more comfortably 😊

They said they grill the meat over charcoal, so my expectations went up 🔥

What side dishes come with the meat, and are refills free?

🥢 Neatly prepared basic side dishes Once you sit down, basic side dishes to go with the meat are set out. From pickled onion, jangajji, and green onion kimchi to various sauces and salt to dip the meat in, there was quite a variety.

Meat can get a bit heavy after a while, but having tangy or spicy side dishes alongside made it easy to keep things balanced 👍 I love it when a BBQ restaurant offers this many side dishes, and it was satisfying — plus you can get refills if you run out!

📋 Menu They have several cuts of hanwoo and pork available, and the set menu lineup was great haha

There was also a good variety of meal items like fried rice, naengmyeon, and stew! (They said alcohol not sold in-store gets free corkage 🍻🍶)

There was also an English menu!

📌 Our pick (for two) We thoroughly enjoyed the recommended set plus kkakdugi fried rice and half-and-half naengmyeon haha. The recommended set comes with hanwoo, pork neck, and pork belly, so it's a good choice when you want to try several kinds of meat.

Along with the meat, mushrooms, corn, and other grillable items came out too, so it looked plentiful just to look at! The meat's color and marbling in particular were quite vivid, so I was excited before even eating 🥩

Charcoal grilling by the staff at Jonggak-ap Nosang

🔥 Staff grill the meat for you, and with the juices rising from the meat combined with the charcoal aroma, there was definitely a unique charm to direct-fire grilling 👀

At a BBQ restaurant, it's always a bit of a hassle figuring out who grills the meat, but here the staff grilled it to just the right doneness for us.

Thanks to that, we could just chat comfortably without worrying about the grilling.

How the hanwoo, pork neck and pork belly tasted

🥩 The well-grilled meat had a nicely browned surface from the charcoal while staying juicy and moist inside, letting the flavor of the meat itself really come through.

Dipped in salt, you get a clean, plain taste of the meat, and with the prepared sauces or side dishes it takes on a different flavor, so I tried mixing and matching a bit 😁

They cut the meat into easy-to-eat pieces, so picking up one bite at a time was convenient, and switching between beef and pork kept things interesting without getting tiring 😋

Adding mushrooms and corn to the mix was also nice for refreshing the palate in between 🍄🌽

Kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice

🍚 As always, after eating meat you can't give up on the K-dessert that is fried rice ‼️ So we ordered the kkakdugi fried rice too.

Kkakdugi fried rice topped with seaweed flakes and sesame seeds

The fried rice, cooked to a delicious orange color and topped generously with seaweed flakes, sesame seeds, and green onion, looked really appetizing 🤤 The finely chopped kkakdugi gave it a nice chewy texture here and there, and it was a great fried rice to finish off the meat with.

You really haven't properly finished a BBQ meal until you've had the fried rice haha.

Half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles)

🍜 And to finish, we couldn't decide between mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles), so unable to give up either, we ordered the half-and-half naengmyeon 😂

One side came as cool mul naengmyeon and the other as spicy-tangy bibim naengmyeon, so we could taste both at once.

Finishing off the meat with cool naengmyeon felt refreshing! Though of course it was delicious eaten alongside the meat too haha.

A bite of naengmyeon eaten together with the meat

When you can't decide between mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon, this half-and-half menu is such a smart way to enjoy both together 😆

Final verdict and opening hours near Jonggak Station

💬 Jonggak-ap Nosang Gongyeong Juchajang was a Jongno BBQ restaurant where you can properly enjoy charcoal-grilled meat while tasting both hanwoo and pork. With the meat set plus kkakdugi fried rice and half-and-half naengmyeon, you get a full meal from meat to noodles 😁

I liked that staff grill the meat for you so you can eat comfortably, and I think it would also be convenient for a work dinner since you don't need to designate someone to handle the grilling haha.

With the warm wood-toned interior, tables that feel somewhat private, and above all satisfying food, this is a good place to keep in mind when you want a hearty meat lunch near Jonggak Station, or when looking for a spot for an office gathering or work dinner in Jongno 🥩🔥
