Euljiro snack bar patio feast: Hyeonseoni-ne

In short

Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch is a Korean snack bar in Jung-gu, Seoul, near Cheonggyecheon Stream. I tried the ₩25,000 Hyeonseoni Combo with medium-spicy tteokbokki, sundae, fritters, gimbap, and fish cake. Verdict: a filling after-work share plate for two.

Now that the weather has turned cooler, you know those days when you get off work and suddenly want something delicious at an outdoor table? I was deciding what to eat near my office after work not long ago, when someone recommended a Korean snack bar over by Cheonggyecheon Stream!

Let’s get right into my review of Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch!

From tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and sundae (Korean blood sausage) to fritters, gimbap (seaweed rice rolls), and fish cake, it was packed with things no Korean-snack lover could easily walk past—so I went all in this time~~ Just wait, Hyeonseoni-ne!

Hyeonseoni-ne (현선이네) has a fairly spacious area of outdoor tables, and the tables themselves are wide, so it was nice for a group to sit and eat together. You know the romance of eating tteokbokki outside in cool weather, right??

Even though I visited after work, quite a few people were already eating! It felt like the sort of place office workers would visit at lunch too, and more than anything, I loved that you can eat outdoors when the weather is nice.

I especially had no idea a place like this was near my office, and it was just perfect for a light bite after work~!? We ordered a spread that would be great for several people to share, but even the two of us got pretty full. I think three people could enjoy it as a light meal too~

What comes in the Hyeonseoni Combo and medium-spicy tteokbokki

Hyeonseoni-ne’s signature item is?? We got the Hyeonseoni Combo to go without a second thought. The Hyeonseoni Combo is ₩25,000. It comes with tteokbokki + sundae + fritters + gimbap + fish cake all at once ❤️

It’s the classic combination of every single thing you want from a Korean snack bar!! You can choose the tteokbokki spice level too, and since I’m a total lightweight with spice, I ordered medium~~

I’d promised myself to cut back on alcohol, so I went with a non-alcoholic beer!

And when I heard it was ₩25,000, I initially thought, Isn’t that a little pricey? But that changed as soon as I received the food~ There was honestly much more than I expected!! It’s plenty for two, and depending on how much you eat, it seems like three people could share it too!

Best of all, the food came out pretty quickly after we ordered, so it was great whether you eat there or take it away.

A variety of fritters and moist sundae

There were so many kinds of fritters too, right?? Sweet potato, vegetables, dumplings, gim-mari (seaweed-wrapped glass-noodle rolls), squid, and more—basically all my favorites among classic Korean snack-bar fritters.

As I alternated between tteokbokki → fritters → sundae → gimbap → fish cake, I got seriously full before I knew it. The set was so well put together that the table looked incredibly abundant, haha.

Personally, I love the vegetable and sweet-potato fritters, and of course they were delicious dipped in the tteokbokki sauce! I think tteokbokki sauce beats soy sauce every time, haha.

The fish cake wasn’t just an ordinary flat sheet either—it was curled up in little waves. They really know their food!

Honestly, when I eat near the office, I end up choosing the same few things every day. Finding this great Korean snack spot near Cheonggyecheon Stream made me weirdly happy, haha.

The sundae and offal were all wonderfully moist and in great condition~~ Considering the amount and the selection, the combo set was good value too!

Finally, even the mini gimbap was delicious, haha. They were the perfect one-bite size, so you can have them with tteokbokki or enjoy them on their own!

Next time, I’m coming back with my coworkers, ordering a Hyeonseoni Combo, and sharing a bit of everything! I recommend it to anyone looking for a Korean snack bar near Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station, a spot near Cheonggyecheon where you can eat outdoors, or anyone like me who can’t handle super-spicy tteokbokki! 🥰❤️

I’m bookmarking Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch as a great Korean snack spot near the office 🤍
