At Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch (장원갑칼국수 용인기흥점), I first cooked the vegetables and meat, then ate chewy kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and fried rice. I have visited a few times, and the people I went with were also pleased with the food and the comfortable dining room.

How were the parking and dining environment?
It is on the way to IKEA and Lotte Giheung Outlet. The parking lot in front is spacious, but it can fill up at peak times, so I would go a little early or allow extra time.
The dining room was spacious too. Since we cooked the broth at the table, I thought it might be hot, but the air conditioning was running well and the meal felt comfortable rather than humid.
Which broth and extras did I choose?
You could choose spicy, mala, or mild broth. I ordered the white-broth kalguksu and added minari (water dropwort).

The minari was crisp raw, and when it was lightly cooked in the broth, its distinctive aroma came through. I sometimes hesitate to buy it separately at home, so I liked being able to have it with the meal this way.

What were the price and taste of the seafood pancake?
I also ordered a seafood pancake with the kalguksu.

The seafood pancake was ₩13,000 and had plenty of shrimp and squid. If there was too much, you could pack it yourself for takeout.

I liked its crisp texture, but it was slightly spicy because of the peppers. Keep that in mind if you are sensitive to heat.
How did I eat the shabu-shabu and kalguksu?
I first put the meat into the boiling broth, cooked it, and ate it wrapped in vegetables.

After eating some of the meat, I added vegetables and noodles to the broth and cooked the kalguksu.

When I set aside the cooked noodles and mixed them with the sesame-oil sauce, they felt like a savory mixed noodle dish. I also liked them topped with geotjeori (fresh kimchi).

The self-service bar also had chopped peppers. I did not add them myself, but they seemed like they would go well with the noodles if you enjoy spicy food.

I was told that the sesame oil and perilla oil here are pressed directly at an oil mill. They were fragrant and nutty with the noodles. They were also sold separately, and the gift-ready packaging caught my eye.

I lightly cooked the minari and mushrooms in the broth, then dipped them in sesame oil or soy sauce. Mixing the chewy noodles with sesame oil also gave me a flavor different from the broth.

I first enjoyed the seafood pancake while it was freshly cooked and crisp, then saved some. I wanted to have fried rice at the end, so I paced myself.

How was the perilla-oil kkakdugi fried rice?
After finishing the noodles and transferring the broth to a bowl, I ended the meal with kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) fried rice. It had plenty of perilla oil, with a strong nutty aroma.

The moderate tang of the kkakdugi felt like it refreshed my palate. The fried rice I had did not contain egg, which made for a clean finish.

What dessert was available after the meal?
I picked up a dessert as I left after the meal.

There were coffee, misutgaru (multigrain powder drink), and several kinds of ppeongtwigi (puffed grain snacks), so I could choose what I wanted. I especially liked the strongly mixed misutgaru.
