Ingye-dong, Suwon BBQ with Mom: first prime rib at Jipbul Taebaek
In short
Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch is a straw-fire smoked Korean BBQ restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon, near Nahyeseok Street. On a weekend lunch with her mom, the writer tried prime rib (udae-galbi, long-bone beef short rib) for the first time: seared over straw fire, then grilled again over charcoal at the table and paired with sauces like aged soy sauce and angelica pesto, plus a triple cheese steamed egg. Thanks to the spacious room and wide choice of sauces, Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch was satisfying enough that she wants to return with the whole family.

Why Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch for a weekend lunch with Mom near Nahyeseok Street
Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch is a new BBQ restaurant near Nahyeseok-gil in Ingye-dong, Suwon. I went on a date with my mom after a long time, and since it was the weekend I wanted a really good lunch. While we were walking around wondering where to go, the newly opened Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch caught my eye ✨

When I searched, I found that Jipbul Taebaek's signature dish is straw-fire prime rib, haha! I had never even eaten prime rib (udae-galbi, thick-cut beef short rib), so I was super curious what it would taste like. We decided on it for lunch right then, haha

The first thing I noticed when we walked in was a wall covered in celebrity autographs. I instantly thought, "This must be a really good place." It turns out Jipbul Taebaek is already famous by word of mouth as a BBQ place in Dongtan, and it's a brand with several branches around the country. I also heard this Suwon Ingye Branch runs in a more upgraded way than the existing stores, so my expectations went up even more..! After visiting, I totally understood why it's already being recommended as an Ingye-dong BBQ place and a Nahyeseok-gil favorite :)

Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch is about an 8-minute walk from Suwon City Hall Station and close to the main Nahyeseok-gil street, so it's easy to reach. It was especially convenient for someone like me who strolled along Nahyeseok-gil first and then headed over to eat, and it works as an easy weekend date route.
Maybe that's why, when we arrived at noon, it was already filled with families, couples and groups of friends..!! Just in case, I recommend reserving on weekends 🧚

Is Jipbul Taebaek one of the roomier BBQ restaurants in Ingye-dong?

One of the biggest strengths of Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch is how roomy it feels. Many BBQ places have tables packed close together or feel a bit stuffy, but this one was laid out comfortably overall.

There are plenty of tables for four, and the tables themselves are big, which I liked. At first I thought, "Wow, this table is huge," but once the meat and side dishes started arriving, it filled up before I knew it, haha

I honestly thought Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch would be great for family meals, company dinners and group gatherings too :)

Kiosk ordering, the self-serve bar and the straw-fire grilling show
You order easily at a kiosk, and the staff were kind enough to guide us, so it wasn't difficult even for a first visit 🧚

Another thing I liked was the self bar, where you can freely take lettuce, perilla leaves, garlic and more, as much as you want.
Right next to the self bar you can watch the straw-fire grilling happen live, and it's surprisingly fun to watch 😆

Because the meat goes through straw-fire smoking in the first-grilling step, it picks up a subtle smoky aroma, and I could barely notice any of the gamey smell typical of beef.
What's on the menu at Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch?

The signature dish here is clearly the prime rib, which they say uses flower rib meat from ribs number 6–8, known as the tastiest part of beef short rib! They also sell a variety of other cuts, such as pork belly, pork neck, whole pork jowl (hangjeongsal) and skirt steak (anchangsal), so you can choose to your taste.
The meal menu was quite varied too. There were shiitake pot rice, cheonggukjang stew (fermented soybean stew), kimchi stew, steamed egg and other dishes that go well with meat. We ordered the prime rib and the triple cheese steamed egg, and to say it up front, it was a really satisfying choice ✨
First taste of straw-fire prime rib: how was it?

What makes Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch special is the charcoal, haha. At the existing branches the straw-fire first grilling was the main thing, but at the Suwon Ingye Branch the straw-fire-grilled meat is grilled once more over charcoal at your table, which made it even more special.

The prime rib made its entrance like the star of the show, haha. It was much bigger than I expected, and I was so surprised!

With the smoky aroma of the straw fire and the deep flavor of the charcoal, the meat's juices felt like they stayed alive until the very end.

A staff member grills it for you, so it was so easy to eat 👍🏻 When it's cooked just right, they lay the meat neatly on top of the rib bones, haha, and they also showed us how to top it with sauce and enjoy it.
Three sauce pairings for prime rib at Jipbul Taebaek

The sauces at Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch are special in a way you really can't taste anywhere else!!
- Black sesame salt
- Neungi mushroom pesto + wasabi
- Aged soy sauce (ssi-ganjang) + angelica pesto

With all these different combinations, each tasted completely different, so I never got tired of it until the end :)

Personally, the aged soy sauce + angelica pesto combination was exactly my taste 😆 The aged soy sauce has a savory depth with a slight sweetness, and with the fragrant angelica added, it melted in my mouth together with the tender meat, haha.

Grilling mushrooms and Taebaek highland kimchi alongside the rib
But what surprised me even more was the mushrooms..! I mean, how is even the mushroom delicious at Jipbul Taebaek? As recommended, I dipped the mushrooms well in the aged soy sauce and topped them with neungi mushroom pesto, and honestly they were as good as the meat, haha.
We also grilled the Taebaek highland kimchi that came with it alongside the straw-fire-scented meat, and that's a can't-go-wrong combo 🤭 Every single bite of rib made me exclaim. If you think "meat all tastes about the same," Jipbul Taebaek is different, and the flavor was worth it (seriously).

Triple cheese steamed egg with long cheese pulls
Last was the triple cheese steamed egg (gyeran-jjim) we ordered! It's steamed egg with three kinds of cheese, and you can feel the cheese bomb from the look of it... 🧀 The moment I took a spoonful, the cheese stretched out long, haha. It's a dish that's fun to watch and fun to eat :)

Final verdict on Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch
Prime rib infused with straw-fire aroma, a wide and comfortable space, and a variety of sauce pairings. The meat itself was delicious at Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch, but I loved the combinations that let you experience so many flavors 👍🏻 After visiting in person, I understood why it's already getting buzz as an Ingye-dong, Suwon BBQ place.
It was such a satisfying meal that I want to come back next time with my whole family! If you like prime rib or haven't tried straw-fire smoked meat yet, Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch is worth a visit ✨
