Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch (황제초밥 일산본점) is a sushi restaurant on the first floor of a shopping building on Baengma-ro, near Western Dome in Ilsan, Goyang. Before a Lake Park picnic, the writer had a late lunch of the salmon and flatfish half-and-half and the shrimp assortment, and enjoyed the thick cuts of fish and the dine-in sides of pumpkin porridge, grilled fish and mini udon. Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch is a solid sushi pick in Ilsan for solo meals, dates and family meals with kids.

Burger pub near Wonju terminal: shrimp set & beer, Max Grill Slop Pub

Munmak, Wonju octopus restaurant: autumn-drive lunch, spicy jjukkumi

Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi (신기칡냉면&쭈꾸미) is a Korean restaurant on Yeowon-ro in Munmak-eup, Wonju, Gangwon, specializing in arrowroot naengmyeon (cold noodles) and jjukkumi bokkeum (stir-fried baby octopus). On a sunny autumn drive, the writer stopped for lunch and ordered the spicy stir-fried jjukkumi for 3 (42,000 won) with a kodari mul naengmyeon (11,000 won), and enjoyed the subtle smoky flavor and the complimentary muksabal (acorn jelly in cold broth). With adjustable spice levels, tour-bus parking and a spacious dining hall, Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi is a good meal stop before or after visiting the Bangye-ri ginkgo tree.

The writer had dinner at Yolk Wonju Musil: snow pane (₩19,000), a shrimp garlic burger plate (₩19,000) and BBQ pilaf (₩13,000), and especially liked the thick, rich pane sauce and the generously filled handmade burger. With a spacious room, floor-to-ceiling windows and 2 hours of parking support, Yolk Wonju Musil is a dependable Wonju pasta spot for dates, family dinners and year-end get-togethers.

My Bless Sauna (마이 브레스 사우나) is a private, room-style Finnish sauna in Buldang-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, across from the Cheonan Sports Complex. The writer booked the 90-minute solo course for ₩55,000, chose cold water for the bath when booking, and alternated löyly (water poured on hot sauna stones) with cold dips, sweating quietly amid cypress scent and ASMR sounds. My Bless Sauna is worth recommending for a day when you want to clear your head alone, or for a visit with your parents.

Wonju makchang restaurant for a group of 6: Yeon Makchang Dangye

Yeon Makchang Dangye Branch is a newly opened makchang (grilled intestine) restaurant on Cheonsa-ro in Dangye-dong, Wonju, near Wonju Bus Terminal and Jangmi Park. A group of 6 booked through Naver and had par-grilled makchang for 3 (42,000 won) and brisket and scallop samhap for 2 (32,000 won) with drinks at dinner; the makchang had no gamey smell and was crispy outside and chewy inside, and the dining room was spacious and comfortable. Yeon Makchang Dangye Branch is worth returning to for group gatherings or a dinner near the terminal.

Wonju lunch restaurant in Munmak: spicy jjusaeu and assorted gukbap

Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi is a Korean restaurant on Yeowon-ro in Munmak-eup, Wonju, Gangwon, serving naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), jjukkumi (baby octopus) and gukbap (rice and soup). This lunch was jjusaeu (baby octopus with shrimp) for two at 34,000 won ordered spicy, plus the special assorted gukbap at 12,000 won, with icy muksabal (chilled acorn jelly soup) and side dishes. With a 200-pyeong parking lot and a hall of 4-to-8-seat tables, Singi Arrowroot is an easy Munmak stop for family or group meals.

Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Wonju Enterprise City Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant of about 100 pyeong on the 2nd floor of 211 Sinjijeong-ro, Jijeong-myeon, Wonju, Gangwon. After booking ahead, the writer grilled pork belly (16.9) and two servings of pork neck (33.8), finished with sprout jjolmyeon (+6,000 won), and had lotus root salad, cheongpomuk muchim (seasoned mung bean jelly) and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) included. With a playroom watched by CCTV, private rooms and 4 hours of parking, Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang suits both family dinners and work get-togethers.

Korean pub near Express Bus Terminal with seven kinds of jeon: Dameun

Dameun (담은) is a Korean pub in the basement of Banpo Shopping Town 4, just outside Express Bus Terminal Station in Seocho, Seoul. I shared a seven-item jeon platter and sous-vide pork belly suyuk with Mungyeong omija takju; the moist pork loin yukjeon stood out, and the softly lit, slightly dark interior suited a quiet conversation.
