Bucheon barley bread bakery, 1-hour wait at 10am opening: Chamsae Bori
In short
Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch, is a sticky-barley bread bakery about a 5-minute walk from Bucheon Station Exit 2 in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, and reportedly won the grand prize in the bread episode of SBS's 'Master of Living' (생활의 달인). Even arriving for the 10am opening meant a 1-hour wait; with the grain barley loaf sold out, the haul was 2 Grand Prize sticky-barley loaves (6,000 won each) and 3 rye sticky-barley loaves (3,700 won each), plus a free financier for a Naver receipt review. Thanks to the chewy, nutty barley texture, Chamsae Bori Sikppang's Bucheon main branch is well worth an opening run.

Where is Chamsae Bori Sikppang's Bucheon main branch, and when is it open?
Chamsae Bori Sikppang (참새보리식빵), Bucheon main branch is at 183-1 Gyeongin-ro, Sosa-gu, Bucheon, Gyeonggi, South Korea, on the 1st floor. It is open 10am to 9pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday to Sunday. It is closed every Monday and Thursday, has no parking, and closes early once everything is sold out.

This Bucheon sikppang (Korean milk-bread loaf) bakery is 615m from Bucheon Station Exit 2, a 5-minute walk, so it's easy to get to.

This Bucheon bakery won the Grand Prize on SBS's Master of Living (생활의 달인) and was reportedly picked as Korea's number one loaf! They say it's a taste three master bakers raved about, so my expectations were sky-high~! 💛

How long is the wait for an opening run at Chamsae Bori Sikppang?
I arrived right at the 10am opening and there was already a line, and I only finished buying after a full hour of waiting. I was honestly shocked. Can you see the line..⁉️ Weekday or weekend, an opening-time run seems to be a must now.

Chamsae Bori Sikppang menu and prices
There are three signature loaves: the Grand Prize sticky-barley loaf (₩6,000), the grain sticky-barley loaf said to be good for blood sugar control, and the rye sticky-barley loaf (₩3,700) for gut health❗ The TV broadcast captures of the masters at the bottom gave off real great-bakery vibes.

They say it's a handmade loaf baked with domestic barley, a healthy bread that everyone from kids to seniors can eat with peace of mind~! I especially like that it's a 'blood sugar management bread' that even people with diabetes can eat. 🍞

Chamsae Bori calls itself Bucheon's tastiest loaf, made with 100% butter! ✔️ It opens at 10am but closes early once ingredients run out, so keep that in mind~! (Closed every Monday and Thursday)
The bread sells out fast, so sold-out and other notices can be checked in real time in the KakaoTalk open chat 'Chamsae Bori Notice' (참새보리식빵 공지)! To avoid a wasted trip, I'd definitely recommend going early or checking the open chat before you come!

When I visited before, there was a wider variety of bread, but now they focus on just 'three' signature loaves! Experienced bakers bake everything in the shop. The smell of freshly baked bread put this bread lover in a good mood the second I walked in! The Bucheon bakery uses low-temperature aging to bring out the bread's natural flavor and texture❗
A Naver receipt review and blog review event is running❗ They said they put care into every step from kneading to baking, to deliver the freshness and warmth of just-baked bread.

Grand Prize and rye sticky-barley loaves
The Grand Prize sticky-barley loaf is Chamsae Bori's signature, the number 1 pick of 'Jjaekbori' (the shop's sparrow mascot), and the loaf the master baker praised. The surface was nicely golden, and just looking at it conveyed a chewy, soft texture. A look that makes you want to tear it apart by hand,, 💛

The rye sticky-barley loaf is studded with sunflower seeds and other nuts, wonderfully nutty, and made with gut health in mind. The price is low too, so it's a healthy bread that's easy to stock up on!🍞

Grain sticky-barley loaf sold out even at opening
Sadly the grain sticky-barley loaf was gone, so only two kinds were available. 😢 It's the owner's pick and Jjaekbori's number 2, so I really wanted to try it, but it vanished this fast even with an opening-time run, which shows how popular it is. I plan to come back for the sticky-barley loaf next time‼️

Are there financiers, cream bread and strawberry jam too?
Chamsae Bori has a pot-bellied financier (a small French butter almond cake) made with 100% fresh cream, said to have deep flavor! The plump, golden-baked look was really appetizing.😊
If you write a receipt review, they give you 1 tasty financier as a free service~><

The cute financiers can also be bought singly, and if you buy 4 they wrap them for free in a cute 'sparrow house' box! It seems great for a casual gift to friends.🎁

There was also a tasting sample of mascarpone milk cream bread. The cream itself isn't too sweet and has a luxurious flavor, so it was really good🥹
They also sell a tasty strawberry jam that seems like a perfect match to spread on the plain barley loaf! 🍓 Since the bread itself is so healthy and mild, a jar of sweet jam alongside would be great as a kids' snack too.

How to store Chamsae Bori Sikppang bread, and its ingredients
Chamsae Bori bread is best eaten right when it comes out. At room temperature, eat it within 3 days; for longer storage, freeze it and thaw at room temperature for half a day❗ I bought the two kinds that were left! Just looking at the basket full of heavy loaves made this bread lover feel rich, and I was glad I'd done the opening-time run.🍞
The shop also had detailed explanations of barley's benefits: boosting immunity, preventing diabetes, helping with dieting, improving gut health and supporting heart health, among others>< Being able to eat tasty bread and look after your health too makes it a good choice for people who find wheat flour hard to digest❗️
They say Chamsae Bori ferments for a full 72 hours at low temperature to produce gluten-breaking enzymes! The result is a gentle-on-the-stomach, healthy meal-replacement bread, and with NO chemical additives, NO preservatives and NO margarine, it's even more reassuring.꒰◍ॢ•ᴗ•◍ॢ꒱ You can feel the master's persistence in insisting on top ingredients like eco-friendly barley, high-calcium milk, New Zealand grass-fed butter and fresh eggs.

Gift wrapping and stamp coupons
Gift wrapping is available for ₩1,000 extra, which makes it good for buying gifts! The shop also displays the certificate naming it Korea's top loaf master in Master of Living's 'Bread War – Sikppang Edition' ❗
Cute sparrow dolls and mini nests and other charming little props caught my eye too.
Before leaving after paying, I saw the shelves totally empty🤣 The loaf selection is down to just three compared with before, but the Bucheon bakery has focused on taste and health, and the quality has been upgraded a lot❗

When you buy a loaf, you get one coupon per loaf, and collecting 10 gets you one free loaf~!🩷

What I bought and how the bread tasted
- Grand Prize sticky-barley loaf ₩6,000 × 2
- Rye sticky-barley loaf ₩3,700 × 3
I bought 2 'Grand Prize sticky-barley loaves' that won the Master of Living prize and 3 'rye sticky-barley loaves' that look healthy at a glance❗ Plus the golden financier I scored from the receipt review event,, 🤍 This bread lover is so happy😊

Grand Prize sticky-barley loaf: dense, chewy crumb
The packaging, dotted with three cute sparrows, says 'the tastiest loaf in Bucheon,' and after one bite you find yourself nodding. As soon as I opened the bag, the nutty, mild flavor of barley spread softly.🍞
It's neatly cut at an easy-to-eat thickness, so it was convenient to pull out one slice at a time. Maybe because it's a natural sourdough loaf with 72 hours of low-temperature fermentation, even the feel in my hands was different.😆 They say no artificial additives go in, so it's a wellness loaf that's perfect to stock up on for kids' snacks or a healthy breakfast❗

The crumb was really tight and dense. Maybe thanks to the sticky barley, the more I chewed, the nuttier and chewier it got, filling my mouth >< Even without jam, just tearing off plain bread was so good that it vanished in one sitting😊

Rye sticky-barley loaf: rye bread that isn't dry
Generously studded with nutty sunflower seeds and other nuts, the rye sticky-barley loaf gives off a healthy aura just by looking at it❗️

If you like mild, unflavored bread, it's an absolute hit❗ Gentle on the stomach yet addictive!

The nuttiness really comes through, a flavor adults will like ^_^ It went so well with coffee and milk!☕🖤

Unlike ordinary rye breads, I was surprised that the inside was really moist and dense. It wasn't rough or dry at all, and the distinctive chewy, springy crumb from the barley stayed intact, which made it delicious.😊
Free financier for a receipt review
The financier I got from the Naver receipt review event! It was baked a lovely golden brown, with a gentle aroma of nutty butter.💛
Slightly chewy outside and fluffy and moist inside, the textbook crisp-outside, soft-inside texture! It wasn't overly sweet, yet had a deep, rich milk flavor, and I really enjoyed it.

If you want a loaf that nails both health and taste, I recommend this Bucheon bakery, Chamsae Bori Sikppang.
