Dongtan group dinner kimchi jjigae and summer noodle sets: Yangpuni

In short

Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is a Korean restaurant in Bansong-dong, Dongtan (Hwaseong, Gyeonggi), near Gaenari Park and Central Park, serving kimchi stew and grilled pork belly. Returning after a first meal here with family, the writer ordered the yangpuni kimchi jjigae with ramyeon sari (instant noodles) added, and the broth was sharp and deep with big chunks of pork and fully fermented whole-leaf kimchi. With a wide dining hall, parking right in front, soju at 1,900 won and summer noodle-and-bulgogi sets, Yangpuni suits work dinners and group meals.

I'd eaten well here before with my family, so this time I revisited Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal (양푼이김치찌개&삼겹살), a spot in Bansong-dong, Dongtan. With Gaenari Park and Central Park nearby, it seemed like a great place to combine a meal with a walk!

How was the yangpuni kimchi jjigae, the pork and the kimchi?

Even before I started eating, seeing the generous, big chunks of pork and well-fermented napa kimchi in the pot made my satisfaction level shoot up haha. The ratio of fat to lean meat on the pork was just right, and the kimchi was fermented just enough that the sourness wasn't overpowering — the longer it simmered, the deeper and more savory it got.

Kimchi jjigae broth simmering with thick cuts of meat

The broth struck a great balance between the refreshing tang from well-fermented kimchi and the rich flavor of pork stock. It wasn't too heavy, but it had a nice kick that made it perfect with rice. Especially the yangpuni kimchi jjigae, which didn't skimp on the thickness of the meat!

Since this place also runs a samgyeopsal restaurant, I had high expectations for the pork kimchi jjigae, and sure enough, it was delicious :) Unlike other kimchi jjigae places, the quality of the meat was just so good! It's honestly a flavor I keep thinking about*_*

When to add the ramyeon sari to the kimchi stew

At Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal, I ate the kimchi jjigae for a while before adding the ramyeon sari (instant noodles), and by then the broth was already fully infused with the flavors of kimchi and pork, giving a totally different feel from adding the noodles at the start. As the noodles soaked up the kimchi jjigae broth, it tasted far richer than just eating plain ramyeon.

Even though I'd already had rice, I just kept reaching for more with my chopsticks haha. Kimchi jjigae and ramyeon really is a hard-to-beat combination.

What to order on the next visit to Yangpuni

Besides kimchi jjigae, there are plenty of other options like samgyeopsal, duruchigi, and pork belly kimchi jjim, so it might be worth trying something different on my next visit :)

If you're near Dongtan's Gaenari Park craving an easy Korean meal with rice, and want to sit down to a hearty pot of spicy kimchi jjigae, I highly recommend this place. Adding the ramyeon sari especially makes for a filling, budget-friendly combo I really want to recommend haha!!
