Dongtan chicken restaurant with boneless ganpama: Fix Chicken

Hi, it's Dumbo 🐘 Chicken is something I eat so often that honestly I can usually guess the taste before I even take a bite. Fried chicken will taste like this~ soy sauce chicken will taste like that~

But this time, after the first bite, both my husband and I went "wait, this is different?" hahaha. It was a brine flavor I'd never had before, and to cut to the chase — we were both completely won over!! Here's our review of Fix Chicken Dongtan Central Park Branch, near Dongtan Central Park :)

Where Fix Chicken Dongtan Central Park Branch is, and its hours

Fix Chicken Dongtan Central Park Branch is near Dongtan Central Park and Gaenari Park, at 18-13 1F Dongtanbansong 3-gil, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open Mon–Sat 15:00–23:00 (last order 22:00), and Sunday 15:00–22:00 (last order 21:00).

There's no dedicated parking at the store, so if you're driving, use one of the nearby alternative lots!! From the outside it already felt more like a pub than your typical neighborhood chicken place.

The big PICK'S CHICKEN sign made it easy to spot from nearby.

Inside Fix Chicken: black-toned interior and a huge screen

Inside, Fix Chicken Dongtan Central Park Branch has a black interior with gold lighting. There's a large screen in the back, great for watching sports with chicken and beer.

Once you step inside, it's all black tones with gold lighting! I went in expecting a casual fried chicken joint, but it was cleaner and had a better atmosphere than I expected. And there was that big screen in the back too.

Baseball was on when we visited hahaha. Watching a game while eating chicken was great, so it seems like a good spot to come for chimaek (chicken and beer) on game days. There were also ordering tablets on the tables, so we could order comfortably from our seats.

The free tteokbokki tastes like the snack stalls outside school

Fix Chicken Dongtan Central Park Branch gives out free snacks and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). Instead of the thick, trendy style, it tasted like the tteokbokki you'd buy outside school — an unexpected trip down memory lane hahaha.

The tteokbokki comes out in exactly the amount shown in the photo. One bite in, I thought, wait, this is exactly like the tteokbokki outside school...? hahaha. Instead of the thick, intense style that's trendy now, it tasted like something from my school days. Perfect for picking at before the chicken arrives haha.

Ordering the boneless half-and-half: original Fix Chicken + ganpama

We ordered the boneless half-and-half, with two flavors: original Fix Chicken and ganpama. It came out generously on one plate, along with pickled radish, cabbage salad, and sauce.

From the moment it arrived, the generous portion on one plate looked great. The ganpama side had a heap of scallion shreds on top, so I could already tell it was going to be good hahaha. Pickled radish and cabbage salad came along with it, plus sauce on the side.

In between bites, we'd cleanse our palate with cabbage salad and pickled radish, then go back to the chicken hahaha.

How the original Fix Chicken tastes: a brine flavor I'd never had

The original Fix Chicken was the biggest surprise of this visit. I expected the familiar fried chicken taste, but the brine flavor felt distinctly different from other brands right from the start.

But here's what was really unexpected — the original Fix Chicken. Honestly, plain fried chicken is the most familiar dish, so you kind of expect what it'll taste like right? But the first bite had me thinking "wait, what is this?" hahaha

(Dipping the rice cake in the seasoned sauce here) Compared to other chicken brands I've tried, the brine flavor was clearly different from the start. I expected the familiar fried chicken taste, but it was a flavor I'd never had before, which was fascinating.

You can see the texture better in this cross-section photo than in the outer shots, right? And most importantly... it was delicious hahaha. It wasn't just me either — my husband said it was good the moment he tried it, so we were both won over at the same time. It was a flavor we'd never had, yet we kept reaching for more.

How the ganpama tastes: soy sauce, scallion, garlic and shredded scallion

Ganpama is literally soy sauce (gan) + scallion (pa) + garlic (ma) combined. Eating the soy-sauce-based chicken together with the scallion shreds on top worked really well.

I mean... how do you give a Korean person soy sauce, scallion, and garlic all at once.

Of course we're going to love it hahaha. Eating the soy-sauce-based chicken together with the scallion shreds on top made the combination really work.

I love piling scallion shreds generously on a piece of chicken like this. Eating only the soy sauce base can get a bit monotonous, but adding scallion changed both the taste and texture, so I kept reaching for more. The original Fix Chicken was surprisingly delicious and the ganpama hit our taste exactly, so ordering the half-and-half was a great call hahaha.

Is the boneless half-and-half enough for two?

Eat some chicken, grab a piece of pickled radish, back to the Fix Chicken, pile scallion onto the ganpama, back to the original chicken again... that's how hard we worked at it as a couple.

Hahahahaha, I'll let this one photo do the talking about the flavor. We really scraped the plate clean hahaha. Except for a bit of pickled radish and a few snacks, it was a completely empty bowl!!
