Seongsu-dong has so many hot spots every time I go that I always agonize over where to eat. This time I went with my niece/nephew (family kid). Going with an elementary schooler meant I had to pick somewhere with zero chance of failure — so here's my review of 'Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch,' the place that earned me an 'Auntie, you're the best!' haha

Where is Gyuen Dang Seongsu? Second floor of the 'Gat It' building by Exit 3

Gyuen Dang Seongsu is on the 2nd floor of the 'Gat It' building — come out Exit 3 of Seongsu Station and head into the alley.

Honestly, gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) is easy to overcook into something dry, so it's kind of hard to find a truly good spot for it, right?

Dinner at 8pm: do you need a reservation at Gyuen Dang?

It was almost 8pm and the place was absolutely packed... which only got my expectations up for how good it'd be.

We had a reservation so we were seated right away, but at peak times I think waiting or reserving is a must!

Striploin gyukatsu, 19,000 won: grilling beef cutlet on a mini charcoal grill

Gyuen Dang Seongsu's striploin gyukatsu is ₩19,000. The gyukatsu first — the look of it alone is insane...

The vivid red marbling of the meat made my mouth water just looking at it, and you could tell how fresh it was just from the color.

Each table has its own mini charcoal grill, so there's extra fun in putting a piece on and grilling it yourself with that sizzling sound, right?

Lightly seared on both sides, topped with a bit of wasabi, dipped in the special sauce — and it was in my mouth, then gone.

The moment you take one bite, you immediately get why people line up for this Seongsu gyukatsu spot.

No gamey smell at all — thin and crispy outside, moist inside, so I ate to the last bite without getting tired of it!

Brie cheese omurice, 23,000 won: does it pair with the gyukatsu?

The brie cheese omurice is ₩23,000, the second dish we ordered alongside the gyukatsu! Fully Instagram-worthy from the looks alone.

A whole wheel of brie sits on top of soft, fluffy omurice (omelet rice) — cut it open with a spoon and fluffy egg meets rich cheese flavor rushing out, a combo that just can't miss haha

Mixed together with the sauce, the smell alone was seriously enticing.

It's savory yet mild, so it paired perfectly with the gyukatsu.

To be honest, the prices aren't exactly cheap, but given Seongsu prices in general and this quality, I found it pretty satisfying!

Is Gyuen Dang Seongsu a good spot for a date dinner too?

The food was great, but Gyuen Dang Seongsu's clean, atmospheric interior also makes it a perfect Japanese restaurant for a Seongsu date!

The omurice was great too, but if I come back, I think I'd order two gyukatsu haha

There are so many chaotic, crowded spots in Seongsu-dong these days, but Gyuen Dang Seongsu had a calm mood where you could just focus on enjoying good food, which I liked even more.

It's hard to find a Seongsu gyukatsu spot with great atmosphere too, but Gyuen Dang passed on both counts, haha

The staff were kind and kept an eye on the grill's flame for us throughout, so we could eat comfortably.
