Yeongdeungpo Korean restaurant for bibimbap before a movie: Gangmun

In short

Gangmun Times Square Branch is a Korean restaurant in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, inside Times Square Food Square. Before seeing Odyssey at IMAX, I had yukhoe bibimbap and beef-belly doenjang-jjigae with yeolmu bibimbap; both were generous and easy on the stomach. Verdict: a satisfying, comfortable meal before a film.

I went to see Odyssey at Yeongdeungpo IMAX, and before the movie I had such a delicious meal of yukhoe bibimbap, beef-belly doenjang-jjigae, and yeolmu bibimbap at Gangmun, a great restaurant in Yeongdeungpo Times Square! Gangmun was just perfect as a Korean restaurant in Yeongdeungpo Times Square! They had a wide range of Korean and fusion dishes too—bibimbap, doenjang-jjigae, suyuk (boiled pork slices), ssambap (rice served with wraps), and more.

Getting to Gangmun Times Square Branch is easy! It is connected to the basement level of Shinsegae Department Store. It is in Food Square, where all the Times Square food courts are gathered! It was perfect to stop by before an IMAX movie in Yeongdeungpo. Food Square is packed with Times Square restaurants!! There was so much to eat, but if you are looking for a Korean rice meal, head to Gangmun!

Restaurant message emphasizing good ingredients

“Care that captures the seasons with good ingredients!” It made me expect a meal prepared with real care, haha.

Gangmun Korean and fusion menu selection

Their signature meal is a set with wureong gang-doenjang (thick soybean-paste dip with freshwater snails) and gabrisal suyuk. They also have kal-ojingeo with kalguksu noodles, spicy pork, various bibimbap dishes, doenjang-jjigae, and cheonggukjang-jjigae (fermented soybean stew). There were unusual fusion dishes too, including cream noodles, gopchang noodles, and perilla-oil noodles!! It felt like the kind of restaurant that would be in Seoul Forest, but Yeongdeungpo Times Square is actually the flagship location!

Yukhoe bibimbap and doenjang-jjigae meal set

For a simple meal, we ordered yukhoe bibimbap—bibimbap topped with seasoned raw beef—and beef-belly doenjang-jjigae with yeolmu bibimbap! The food came out looking so pretty and appetizing!! Packed with vegetables, it looked like such a healthy Korean meal.

Such a neat, healthy-looking full spread! A true Times Square Korean restaurant!!! The ingredients were fresh and they really did not skimp on them.

Yeolmu bibimbap and doenjang-jjigae together

First, the yeolmu bibimbap—bibimbap with young radish greens!!! It is actually not that easy to find everywhere. The fried egg was so pretty too, haha. I cannot believe there was a Korean restaurant like this in Times Square. Yeolmu bibimbap and doenjang-jjigae are the best combination.

The beef-belly doenjang-jjigae was genuinely moving too. It was absolutely full of beef belly, with loads of other vegetables as well. Maybe that is why the stew was so rich and even tastier!! It did not taste like store-bought soybean paste or the strong stew from a barbecue place; it tasted like homemade doenjang, simmered at home with plenty of ingredients, so it felt both tastier and healthier!! And since it came as a set with yeolmu bibimbap, the combination was just so good!

Potato, zucchini, and beef belly! This was seriously a high-quality doenjang-jjigae spot!! Haha. I felt so good after having a hearty, healthy meal before seeing Odyssey, haha. It had been a while since I went to Times Square on a weekday evening, and there was so much to see and so many good places to eat—it was great!

Yukhoe bibimbap with plenty of raw beef

The yukhoe bibimbap was seriously amazing quality. There was so much yukhoe in it. The variety of vegetables made it colorful, pretty, and delicious too!! Bibimbap is popular these days with the Korean food boom among visitors, they say, so international visitors, come to Gangmun at Times Square for Korean food~ haha!

Break the yolk and mix it all together. If you are looking for a good restaurant in Times Square, definitely try Gangmun. We were having a Times Square date on a weekday evening for the first time in a while, and eating out for Korean food again was delicious, easy to digest, and so nice, haha.

There was really plenty of yukhoe, and the serving was large enough to fill me up! It came with three kinds of side dishes and beef mu-guk (beef and radish soup), which made it nice to eat. The beef mu-guk was packed with meat too, haha.

A Korean meal that sits comfortably before a movie

It was my first time at Gangmun, a Times Square restaurant, and it was such a delicious Korean spot! The menu selection was great, and they use good ingredients generously. I was so happy to have a healthy, tasty, proper Korean meal that really filled me up. I stopped by while going to see Odyssey at IMAX, and even after eating right before sitting down for the movie, my stomach did not feel heavy at all and everything digested well, haha. The gabrisal suyuk and cream noodles looked like they would be so good too. If you are coming to Yeongdeungpo Times Square for a date, definitely visit Gangmun for Korean food~!
