Today I'm sharing my visit to Julseoneun Banjeom (줄서는반점), a Gangnae-myeon landmark that locals in Cheongju swear by. The chef has 25 years of experience and hand-picks fresh ingredients every single day — one look at the walls, covered floor to ceiling with guestbook entries and signatures, and you instantly understand why people line up here.

Where is Julseoneun Banjeom Gangnae, and what are the hours?
Julseoneun Banjeom Gangnae is located in Gangnae-myeon, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk. Hours are Monday to Saturday 11:00–20:00, with a break time from 14:20 to 17:00, last order at 19:10, and closed on Sundays.

Just looking at the wall packed with heartfelt guestbook messages and signatures from customers made it obvious why this place has people lining up. There's a neatly arranged self-serve bar on one side, so you can hygienically help yourself to pickled radish, onions, and other side dishes as needed — very convenient. Ordering is done via a QR code at each table, so keep that in mind!

What does the 13,000-won stir-fried cream jjamppong taste like?
The first signature dish to arrive was the stir-fried cream jjamppong (jjamppong: spicy seafood noodle soup), ₩13,000. It's built on a savory cream sauce base packed with plump shrimp, scallops, clams, and squid.
Cream can easily get heavy, but here the umami from the seafood balances it out perfectly, so it stays rich and savory down to the last bite. A truly one-of-a-kind dish, very fitting for a Cheongju food spot! (Might not be for everyone.)

Scallion beef brisket jjamppong, 12,000 won: rich broth, sharp scallion
The scallion beef brisket jjamppong is ₩12,000, an absolute must if you love a spicy noodle soup. (Recommended.) Just looking at the deep red, rich broth is enough to clear your sinuses — it's piled high with fresh shredded scallions, savory beef brisket, and generous whole shrimp.
One sip of the broth reveals the deep meaty flavor drawn from the beef brisket, mingling beautifully with the sharp, refreshing bite of the scallions. Wrapping the chewy noodles around a piece of brisket made for the perfect hangover cure and a satisfying full meal all at once.

Lemon tangsuyuk, 13,900 won: crisp outside, juicy inside, bright citrus
Lemon tangsuyuk (crispy fried sweet-and-sour meat) is ₩13,900 and pairs perfectly with the jjamppong dishes. The visual alone grabs your attention — crispy fried sirloin topped generously with fresh lemon slices and crunchy onion.
Bite into it and you really feel that crisp-outside, juicy-inside texture. Instead of artificial sweetness, the sauce carries the natural brightness of real lemon, cutting through the richness for a clean, sweet-and-tangy finish.

Kkanshyo fried rice, 10,000 won and only 30 bowls a day
Julseoneun Banjeom Gangnae's kkanshyo fried rice is ₩10,000 and reportedly sold only in a limit of 30 bowls per day. This was the dish that stood out most on the menu board and wall signage.
It's made to order with 108 careful tosses of the wok, and they keep it limited to 30 bowls a day to preserve ingredient quality and flavor. Unfortunately, the ingredients had already run out by the time I visited, so I couldn't try it — but I'm so curious about that smoky wok flavor from the 108 tosses that I plan to come back soon right at opening time!

Is Julseoneun Banjeom Gangnae worth a visit? Tips before you go
Julseoneun Banjeom is a beloved local Cheongju spot where you can feel the chef's 25 years of deep skill and stubborn dedication in every dish. It goes far beyond typical Chinese restaurant menus — from the rich, creamy cream jjamppong to the deep scallion beef brisket jjamppong and the bright, citrusy lemon tangsuyuk, every dish had real personality while staying grounded in solid fundamentals. I was very satisfied. If you're looking for a distinctive, well-executed Chinese restaurant near Gangnae, Cheongju, I highly recommend a visit!
