QR-order solo lunch at Seolleung gyukatsu restaurant Gyuen Dang
In short
Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch is a Japanese gyukatsu restaurant near Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul, opened after the original Seongsu location. Dining alone, the writer ordered tenderloin gyukatsu, kesoage (fried squid legs) and a bottle of ramune, then grilled the beef with salted butter on the tabletop brazier; the kesoage was not chewy at all and works well as a side. Ordering by QR code at the table meant never flagging down a server, which made Gyuen Dang an easy solo lunch near Seolleung Station.

I went out for gyukatsu today after a while. Gyukatsu isn't eaten straight away like regular tonkatsu — it comes out fried crisp on the outside, and you grill it yourself over a tabletop brazier to your liking. While looking for a good solo-dining spot near Seolleung Station, I found Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch!
What is Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch like inside?

Gyuen Dang has its original branch in Seongsu, and this new one just opened in Seolleung. Maybe because it's new, the interior was overall clean and pleasant. Japanese-style posters hung here and there, giving it that distinct Japanese restaurant feel. It wasn't too heavy or traditional overall — more of a clean, easy-to-dine-in atmosphere, so it seemed like a good pick for a Seolleung Station lunch spot.

How QR ordering and the table drawers work at Gyuen Dang
At Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch, you can order right from your seat via the QR code on the table, without needing to keep calling a staff member. Opening the drawer under the table reveals spoons, chopsticks, tissues, and wet wipes all neatly ready to go. It was convenient to just pull out whatever I needed.
What is on the menu at Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch?

The menu at Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch has more than just gyukatsu — a variety of Japanese dishes are on offer. It's mainly organized into gyukatsu, omurice, rice bowls, udon, and side dishes, and the gyukatsu itself comes in different cuts like tenderloin and sirloin. Side dishes include kesoage, korokke, and shrimp tempura, and there are Japanese-style drinks like ramune and cider too.
What I ordered that day was tenderloin gyukatsu, kesoage, and ramune! 🥩
Tasting the food at Gyuen Dang

The table setting and the tabletop brazier

After ordering and waiting a bit, a small brazier gets set on the table. Once a staff member lights it, that's your cue to start grilling the gyukatsu properly.
Tenderloin gyukatsu with salted butter and wasabi

The tenderloin gyukatsu finally arrived! Just look at that visual first — the tenderloin's gorgeous color...✨ The outside is coated in crispy breading, and the inside still has a pink hue, so you can grill it to your own taste.
The moment the meat hits the brazier — sizzle sizzle 🔥 the sound alone gets you going haha.

The gyukatsu comes with salted butter on the side too. Brush a bit of this butter on the meat and put it back on the brazier, and as it melts it adds a savory richness to the meat.

The moment it hit the brazier, the butter started melting and sizzling, and the smell alone was amazing. My favorite combo was adding a little wasabi on top. The savoriness of the meat plus wasabi's sharp kick made it taste clean and not greasy at all. If you're after gyukatsu near Seolleung, this style is worth trying — it's pretty fun.
Kesoage: squid leg fry that is not chewy at all

And the kesoage I ordered as a side! Kesoage is basically fried squid legs. Since I had braces at the time, I was honestly a bit worried — what if the squid was chewy?
But nope... it really wasn't chewy at all.

It genuinely melts in your mouth haha. And dipping it in the sauce that came with it made it even better. I'm not exactly sure what the sauce was, but it felt like a mild chipotle-style sauce that wasn't too intense. The savory squid and the gently spicy sauce went really well together — if you come here, I'd genuinely recommend kesoage as a side.
Ramune soda: failing to push the marble down

And out of curiosity I ordered ramune! This was actually my first time trying ramune haha. At first glance there's a marble sitting right in the bottle's neck. Press the cap down hard and the marble drops with a plop, letting you drink.
No matter how hard I pressed, it wouldn't budge, so I asked a staff member to pour it into a glass for me. 😂

The taste was a mild, gentle soda flavor! Not too sweet or intense, so it paired nicely with the gyukatsu. Eating the savory meat and taking a sip of ramune felt refreshing — a good combo.

Next time I'd like to try a different gyukatsu cut haha. If gyukatsu comes to mind near Seolleung Station, this is a place worth visiting at least once. 🐷🤍
