Seoul Forest Western restaurant with beef Wellington: Kongkase Seongsu

In short

Kongkase Seongsu is a Western restaurant a short walk from Exit 5 of Seoul Forest Station in Seongdong, Seoul. Booked through Naver for a Friday evening, the table by the floor-to-ceiling windows came with a lit candle, and dinner was beef Wellington cooked medium rare (₩53,000) plus lasagna (₩23,000) rolled from fresh pasta sheets — the best lasagna I've eaten to date. With the calm Seoul Forest setting and candlelight, Kongkase Seongsu is an easy recommendation for a date or a first meeting.

Exterior of Kongkase Seongsu near Seoul Forest Station

This was almost my first time eating near Seoul Forest, and unlike the bustling vibe of Seongsu, the Seoul Forest area is definitely calmer. It's wild how different the mood is even though they're so close. Nice~~

Kongkase gives off a good feeling right from the exterior. By the way, 'congcasse' refers to the classic Western-cuisine technique of peeling and finely dicing tomatoes 🍅 — even the name screams fine-dining Western food.

Inside Kongkase Seongsu: white-and-wood interior, window seats, Friday evening mood

Entrance area of Kongkase Seongsu

The moment I walked through the door at Kongkase Seongsu, a staff member greeted us warmly, which put me in a great mood 🪽 Right before this, I'd left a Twosome Place feeling annoyed because of the staff there — a small bit of kindness really does shape how you feel.

Cozy interior atmosphere of Kongkase Seongsu

Inside, white and wood tones make for a cozy ~ atmosphere — the vibe is so good. We visited on a Friday evening, and looking around, there were a lot of couples at nearby tables. A few tables in particular really looked like they were on blind dates.. I thought it was the perfect spot for one.. 📝 Everyone picked such a good location ^^

We picked the beef Wellington (₩53,000) and the lasagna (₩23,000) — went with the signature dishes. So exciting.

The bread that came out first 🥖 served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It came out warm, so we enjoyed it.

The rolled fresh-pasta lasagna at Kongkase Seongsu, the best I've had

Plating of Kongkase Seongsu's lasagna

Next up, the lasagna 🍝 — Kongkase's BEST menu item, made with fresh pasta rolled up. So excited. The plating alone is so pretty.

Rolled lasagna topped with arugula

Arugula on top,

the look of it was unusual — inside the rolled-up lasagna sheets is soft cheese and sauce. A totally different style from any lasagna I've had before!

This was genuinely so good.. eating it with my friend, we both agreed it was the best lasagna we'd ever had...

📣 You have to get the lasagna

Beef Wellington medium rare, with sauce, mashed potato and garnish

Beef Wellington wrapped in puff pastry

Next dish: beef Wellington 🥩 — tenderloin steak wrapped in puff pastry. We ordered ours medium rare.

Underneath were steak sauce and mashed potatoes, plus garnish on the side to eat along with it. The staff explained that we should eat the steak together with the sauce, mashed potatoes, and garnish 💁🏻‍♀️

Garnish of cherry tomatoes, shallots, and peas

The garnish that came with it (cherry tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, shallots, peas) was tasty eaten alongside the meat. Especially that shallot! I thought it was garlic at first, but the texture was different from garlic I usually eat. Unusually delicious.

The restroom is outside the building

Passage to the restroom located outside the building

Kongkase Seongsu's restroom is located outside the building haha. It was clean and totally fine 👍🏻

Who should book Kongkase Seongsu, and when

Overall, the restaurant's atmosphere is so good and the food plating is so pretty that it kept me in a good mood the entire meal. Plus the kind staff..🫰🏻 It's the perfect spot for a special occasion. If you've got a date or a blind date coming up near Seoul Forest, I fully recommend it, and of course even without a special occasion, it's more than good enough for a day you're just craving delicious Western food!

If you visit, make sure to try the lasagna,, and if you want both atmosphere and taste near Seoul Forest, I recommend Kongkase Seongsu!!
