Ulju, Ulsan bakery café with a mini gallery: MUG blueberry roll

A nice-weather weekend trip to Eonyang~~~ We went to Tongdosa first~ and stopped for that famous Tongdosa/Eonyang chicken kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant~~

Once you've had a really good meal!!! it's time for a caffeine transfusion at a café!!! Ulsan has so many big cafés, but I found one in Eonyang, Ulju with real character — a bakery café!!!

The space is meant to evoke an area transformed by wildfire, all turned black — hence the name MUG (먹, meaning 'ink' or 'blackened'). Everything is black, like it's been turned to ash!!! The meaning and the vibe made me want to visit!!!

Where is MUG, what are its hours, and are pets allowed?

MUG is located at 90 Hyangsandagae-ro, Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan, South Korea, and is open daily from 10 AM to 8 PM (last order 7:30 PM). The outdoor seats are pet-friendly!

It's in Ulju, but it's close to both Yangsan and central Ulsan, so it's pretty easy to get to~~~

Follow the signs up the path!!! The weather was gorgeous — such a clear autumn day, and the café matched it perfectly!! Isn't MUG so atmospheric???

Having a huge parking lot with zero parking stress is the best part~~~~

MUG's whole concept is a black building shaped like something turned to ash. The front is quiet and serene, while the back — with the mountain and outdoor seats — feels much more alive.

The vibe was insane~~~ the architecture itself was a piece of art ㅠㅠㅠ I couldn't believe such a picture-perfect café was hidden here, so beautiful ㅠㅠ

I love the conceptual 'turned to ash' feeling and the way the architecture holds so many different moods at once~ MUG ♥ it's such a captivating space!!

If the front space feels quiet and serene, the back is more lively — the mountain and outdoor seats blend together so well, I really loved it~~~

A space that's pure relaxation!! It was still a bit too warm to sit outside that day~ but by next week the weather should be perfect for sitting on the terrace!!

Even the stairs have that dreamy café feel at MUG :)

Walking into MUG, the first thing you see is a mini gallery. You can look at art while enjoying drinks and desserts — a true multipurpose cultural space.

It was so packed inside there wasn't a spot to be found! I grabbed the one last open seat quickly haha. This café is seriously popular???

What MUG's bakery counter has, from rolls to cakes

MUG bakes with top-grade Lescure butter. It's a huge bakery café with sausage bread, pizza bread, whole corn bread, salt bread, mocha buns, garlic bread, cheese bread, a whole line of cinnamon rolls, and chestnut cheesecake.

MUG is famous as a large bakery café!! Let's take a proper look at the bakery~~~

Starting with the sausage bread~~

Pizza bread and whole corn bread~~ When I visited, items sold out and got restocked, sold out again — the bakery items kept disappearing~~ MUG really is a bakery hotspot!! Why didn't I buy the whole corn bread? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

And MUG is famous for its rolls!! Cinnamon rolls, blueberry cream cheese cinnamon rolls, apple cinnamon rolls, tiramisu cinnamon rolls!! There were so many kinds of rolls~~~ think of them like roll-shaped sandwich bread!!! Choosing just one was seriously agonizing!!!

Garlic bread and cheese bread... found you two on my way out... I'll come back for you~~~ honestly, if you see bread you like, just buy it~~~

Chestnut and corn are so trendy these days~~~ they have chestnut cheesecake too~~~ cakes... you guys also sold out while I was there... I'll come back~~~ hahahaha MUG really has such a huge bakery variety, bread lovers would go crazy here~~~ so what did I end up choosing??

At MUG, we ordered one signature MUG black latte, one iced café latte, one blueberry cream cheese roll, and one croissant. The MUG black latte is meant to be stirred before drinking — it has a nutty, grain-latte kind of taste.

Ohhh~~~~~~~ the visuals are seriously insane, right?? That blueberry jam dripping down is such a mood!!!

Turns out I love blueberries?? Honestly I love both blueberry and cream cheese, so how could I not eat this combo~~~

Stir the MUG black latte like this before drinking~~ the visuals are amazing~~~ it has a nutty, grain-latte kind of flavor!!! Highly recommend this one~~

The roll was so soft and sweet and tangy — a really appealing mix of flavors all at once~~~

They express MUG's identity and worldview through cards like this~~ made me think this is a café that really knows how to brand itself, MUG ♥

You can take any leftover bread to go at MUG. I was too full from the croissant so I had it packed up hahaha.
