Sunji Café (순지카페) is a large bakery café in Habuk-myeon, Yangsan, near Tongdosa Temple. After lunch at a nearby kodari (semi-dried pollack) restaurant, the writer sat on Sunji Café's fountain-view outdoor terrace with a salted caramel gelato latte, an iced latte and an orange pound cake. Sunji Café is a perfect spot for an autumn terrace and a gelato latte before the weather turns cold.
Yongdeokjang Kodari Tongdosa Branch (용덕장코다리 통도사점) is a braised pollack restaurant in Tongdo Food Town, Habuk-myeon, Yangsan. On a weekday visit around opening time, the writer ordered siraegi kodari (braised semi-dried pollack with dried radish greens) at regular spice with a 1,000-won pot rice upgrade, and finished the thick pollack, soft radish greens and spicy-but-not-harsh sauce down to the scorched rice. For a filling meal near Tongdosa Temple, the siraegi kodari at Yongdeokjang Kodari is the answer.
Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom is a makchang (grilled pork intestine) restaurant in an alley between Jeonpo Elementary School and Bujeon Market in Seomyeon, Busan, where staff pre-grill and then grill the makchang at your table. The blogger ordered 3 servings of makchang, yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), doenjang stew and somaek (soju mixed with beer), and especially enjoyed the yukhoe tossed with pear and lettuce, eaten with pa-jeori (scallion salad), and the full grill plate of 3 servings. Taeyeong Saengmakchang Bujeon-jeom suits anyone who wants an easy makchang meal without worrying about smoke.
Anmin Busan is a Korean BBQ restaurant with a dining-bar feel in front of Jeonpo Elementary School in Seomyeon, Busan, where staff grill the meat for you. At opening time for lunch, the writer ordered the half-platter set (pork belly, pork neck and pork skin) with draft beer, doenjang (soybean paste) stew with crab, and rice; the fresh cabbage kimchi (geotjeori) and the house shiitake sauce stood out. For anyone who would rather not grill their own meat, Anmin Busan's grilling service and generous doenjang stew make it a very satisfying choice.
Gwangalli Badangjip is a newly opened raw fish restaurant and bar on the 2nd floor of a building on Gwanganhaebyeon-ro in Suyeong, Busan, with a view of Gwangan Bridge. On a rainy autumn weekend evening, with the 2nd-floor terrace open, the blogger ordered the seasonal sashimi for 2 and a seafood set with soju and beer, and the food kept coming, from side dishes to the review-event fried squid and maeuntang (spicy fish stew). Verdict: even eating until full, the bill came to under ₩100,000, so Gwangalli Badangjip can cover a first, second and third round in one sitting.
Working Holiday Millak (Working Holiday & Night) is an ocean-view brunch café on the 7th floor of the Bada Maru Building on Millaksubyeon-ro in Gwangalli, Busan. On an early-morning visit, a regular had the Brunch Plate Big, baked potatoes with cheese sauce, grapefruit ade and an iced latte at a window seat facing Gwangan Bridge. Working Holiday Millak opens at 9 am, which makes it a good spot for a quiet breakfast-style brunch before the crowds arrive.
Kkotsutgalbi Geoje Sono Calm Jisepo Main Branch is a beef and pork galbi (marinated ribs) restaurant in Ilun-myeon, Geoje, right in front of Sono Calm. With a reservation for a window seat at weekend lunch, the writer's family had 3 servings of wire-grilled marinated pork galbi, Geoje yuja bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles with citron) and a 9,000 won beef brisket soybean stew, plus banchan (side dishes) including marinated raw crab, salad and muksabal (acorn jelly in cold broth), and a garaetteok (rice cake) and honey side the kids especially loved. For families staying at Sono Calm, one meal at Kkotsutgalbi is well worth it.
Kkomang Unmanned Kids Cafe (꼬망무인키즈카페) is a private, unstaffed kids café booked through Naver for exclusive rental, on the 4th floor of a building on Yongso-ro 13beon-gil in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. On a hot, humid day we explored Kkomang Unmanned Kids Cafe's corridor-style trampoline and slide, toy zone, ramp car ride, Ceragem rest zone, party table and a thoughtfully stocked restroom, with weekday morning rental at ₩13,000 per 30 minutes. With plenty for kids to play with and a place for adults to rest, Kkomang Unmanned Kids Cafe is a strong pick for family gatherings and birthday parties in Daeyeon-dong.
Gilchon Sutbul Galbi Seomyeon Main Branch is a charcoal-grilled pork galbi restaurant on the food street between Jeonpo Elementary School and Bujeon Market in Seomyeon, Busan. On a chilly day the writer ordered a full plate of marinated galbi in the 20,000-won range, ojingeo-chomuchim (spicy-sour squid salad) in the 5,000-won range and doenjang stew, and explains how to control the heat so the marinated ribs don't burn. The marinated galbi at Gilchon Sutbul Galbi has a clean, not-too-heavy marinade and a generous portion, making it good value for money.

On a hot summer day, the writer sat indoors and ordered a peach lemon ade, a smashed avocado open sandwich and a spicy mushroom chicken cream spaghetti, and fell for the styled interior and the sea view. Working Holiday Millak is a great place to escape the heat and enjoy brunch with a Gwangan Bridge view.
Song Giwon Jinju Naengmyeon Main Branch (송기원진주냉면 본점) is a Jinju-style naengmyeon (cold noodle) restaurant with yukjeon (pan-fried beef) on Modeok-ro in Jinju, Gyeongnam, known for its Blue Ribbon listing and an appearance on the TV show Jeon Hyun-moo Plan. On a clear weekend during the rainy season, the writer took the last open table after 2 p.m. and ordered mulnaengmyeon (cold noodles in broth), mul-bibim (half-broth, half-spicy noodles) and ujeon (beef jeon), with the clean warm broth and thick beef jeon wrapped in geotjeori (fresh kimchi) as the highlights. For anyone sightseeing in Jinju, Song Giwon Jinju Naengmyeon Main Branch is a naengmyeon restaurant worth a return visit.
Zoblack (조블랙, JOEBLACK) is a mostly takeout salt bread bakery in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan. The blogger took home a set of 4 original salt breads for 10,000 won, plus basil tomato, scallion cream, jambon and myeongran (pollock roe) salt breads and a lemon madeleine, and the fresh bread smelled so good that they tore into it on the street right away.
