This time I went on a trip to Ulsan, and the first place I visited was "MUG (카페 먹)", a café located in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun!
It's a large Ulsan café set in nature close to Eonyang, with a variety of baked goods and cinnamon rolls, plus a grassy lookout with a view of the Yeongnam Alps and even a small exhibition space.

I was surprised that even though we visited around 2pm on a weekday, most of the bakery items were already sold out 🥹 Still, we happily ate the blueberry cream cheese cinnamon roll and the signature drinks.

Let's start the review of MUG, a bakery café in Eonyang, Ulsan, that's great to visit while traveling around Ulsan or driving near Eonyang :)
Where is MUG, and what are its hours and parking?

A large Ulsan café surrounded by mountains and trees
MUG was the first place I rushed to after deciding on Ulsan as my destination! It's located in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, close to Eonyang, and if you drive a bit off the city center along a forest road, you'll find the café tucked into nature.
At first, since we were driving pretty far in, I thought 'is there really a café out here?' haha
But once we arrived, the wide outdoor space blending with the trees made the somewhat remote location feel like MUG's own charm! It seems like a great fit for anyone looking for a large Ulsan café where they can relax in quiet nature.
Is parking at MUG free?
If you're visiting by car, you don't need to worry much about parking. There's a generous parking area right in front of the café, so we were able to park comfortably for free.
It's also great to visit alongside nearby travel spots. ✔️ Jasujeong Cave Country is about 12 minutes away by car, and ✔️ Ganwoljae is about 29 minutes away, so it could work well as a drive course while traveling around Ulsan or the Yeongnam Alps :)
The story behind the name MUG
MUG isn't just a big café — there's a special story behind how the space came to be. Apparently, this land was used to grow landscaping trees for over 20 years, but the trees were destroyed by a wildfire in 2013. Afterward, trees were replanted and paths were made, turning it into the space it is today where people can come to rest.

The dark, charred wood you can see throughout the café is also apparently used as a material to remember traces from that time. At first I thought it was just unique interior design, but knowing the story behind it made looking around feel a bit different!
It also matched well with MUG's atmosphere of lingering slowly in nature.
Does the bakery at MUG sell out even on weekdays?
One of the things I was most looking forward to at MUG was the bakery 🥐

I especially wanted to try the cinnamon roll, since it's said to be the signature dessert, along with a drink.

We visited around 2pm on a weekday! Since it was a weekday, I figured there'd be plenty of bread left, but... most of the bakery was sold out 🥹

A sellout issue, seriously ㅠㅡㅠ A lot of the breads I wanted to try were already gone, which was a bit disappointing.

Luckily there were still some cinnamon rolls left, so we were able to order them along with our drinks haha

If there's a specific bakery item you want at MUG, I'd recommend visiting a bit earlier than the afternoon! Just note that bakery stock can vary by the day you visit :)
MUG menu and what we ordered
On this day, what we ordered was: ☕ MUG Black Latte ₩7,500, 🍋 MUG Lemon Smoothie ₩7,500, 🫐 Blueberry Cream Cheese Cinnamon Roll ₩6,800

I picked the combination of the café's namesake signature drinks along with its representative dessert, the cinnamon roll.
MUG black latte, 7,500 won
Since it's a signature menu item with the café's name in it, I was curious and ordered the MUG Black Latte.

The conclusion is... the MUG latte is delicious 👍
It was smooth to drink and had a unique visual too, so I was glad I ordered the signature menu item. If you're wondering what coffee to get at MUG, try the MUG Black Latte :)
MUG lemon smoothie, 7,500 won
The MUG Lemon Smoothie we ordered together was cool and refreshing, and delicious 🍋

And the most surprising part was that the lemon was black ㅋㅋㅋ

It was different from the yellow lemons I'm used to, so it was surprising to see for the first time haha It had a refreshing, cool taste that paired well with the cinnamon roll too.
Blueberry cream cheese cinnamon roll, 6,800 won
🫐 Blueberry Cream Cheese Cinnamon Roll ₩6,800

The cinnamon roll is the signature dessert I wanted to try if I came to MUG! This time I picked the blueberry cream cheese version.
There's plenty of tangy blueberry and thick cream cheese piled on top of the cinnamon roll. The cinnamon aroma, the tanginess of the blueberry, and the richness of the cream cheese came together deliciously.

It was disappointing that so much bread was sold out, but I was glad the cinnamon roll at least was still available haha

If you're looking for an Eonyang café dessert or love cinnamon rolls, try it with a drink :)
✨️ An art exhibition inside MUG
MUG also has a small exhibition space, which could make for a different kind of experience for those looking for an Ulsan gallery café. When I visited in September, the Lim Hee-jung invitational exhibition 〈Between Transit〉 was underway.

I liked that you can browse artwork for a bit instead of just enjoying coffee and dessert. If you visit the café, be sure to check out the exhibition space too :) ※ The exhibition may change depending on the season.
The grassy lookout at MUG with Yeongnam Alps views
If you visit MUG, don't just have coffee and leave right away — be sure to head up to the grassy lookout above the café!

Walking slowly uphill, you'll find a wide lawn and a lookout area with views of several peaks of the Yeongnam Alps.
I went up excitedly hoping to see it too, but of all days, it was cloudy 🥹 If only the weather had been clear, the blue sky and Yeongnam Alps would have been really beautiful ㅠㅠ
I was really disappointed not to get to see the refreshing mountain scenery I had hoped for. Next time I'll definitely come back on a day with a pretty blue sky!
If you visit MUG on a nice day, walk up slowly to the lookout and enjoy the view too :)
Visiting MUG with a dog
MUG is a pet-friendly café 🐶 With its wide outdoor yard, lawn, and surrounding nature, it looked like a great place to take a walk and rest with your dog.
The space itself is more spacious than a typical city café, so if you're looking for pet-friendly things to do in Eonyang, keep this in mind :)

🍀 Final verdict on MUG in Ulju, Ulsan
MUG in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, was the first place I visited on my Ulsan trip.

From the wide space surrounded by mountains and nature to the bakery, signature drinks, small exhibition space, and the lookout with views of the Yeongnam Alps, it was a café better suited to lingering slowly than just grabbing a quick cup of coffee.

In particular, the MUG black latte was delicious 👍 and I also enjoyed the blueberry cream cheese cinnamon roll and the refreshing MUG lemon smoothie.

It was a bit disappointing that so much of the bakery was sold out even at 2pm on a weekday, and that the cloudy weather kept me from properly seeing the Yeongnam Alps scenery 🥹
So it's a place I actually want to revisit — a bit earlier, on a day with a pretty blue sky! If you're traveling around Ulsan or driving near Eonyang and looking for a place to relax in nature, give MUG, this large Ulsan café, a try :)
