Yongin sashimi restaurant for a summer squid sashimi lunch: Mr. Squid

In short

Mr. Squid Yongin Bojeong Branch is a sashimi restaurant on the Jukjeon cafe street in Bojeong-dong, Yongin, best known for its squid sashimi. On a sweltering summer day after shopping at Shinsegae Jukjeon, the writer ordered the squid and live fish set for 62,000 won at lunch. The set included squid sashimi, assorted live fish sashimi and squid fritters, plus a rich seaweed soup and steamed egg in an earthenware pot. The chewy live squid sashimi at Mr. Squid easily beat the fish sashimi, making for a standout summer lunch.

Where do you park at Mr. Squid Yongin Bojeong Branch?

There's room for about three or four cars in front of and beside the restaurant. Since I went for squid sashimi at lunchtime, I didn't have to worry about parking. But it's also easy to just park at the cafe street public lot.

Restaurant entrance with a bingsu mulhoe sign posted

Sweet, tangy, and refreshing — bingsu mulhoe!!!!!!! Just reading the words "bingsu mulhoe" (shaved-ice cold raw fish soup) cools me down haha. Squid mulhoe sounds so good. If you're craving squid mulhoe among Bojeong-dong sashimi restaurants in Yongin, this is the place.

Store entrance with a summer mulhoe promotional poster

Whoever made that poster did a great job — in this heat, seeing it makes you want to walk right in. And it really is super air-conditioned inside — the moment you step in, it's heaven. This weather is just too much lately, ugh. It's fainting-hot out there.

Live squid swimming in the restaurant's fish tank

Hello, squid friends! Hahahaha.

Complimentary seaweed soup and stone-pot egg custard

The complimentary seaweed soup was really rich and delicious, and the egg custard came out huge in a stone pot. If you're on the Jukjeon cafe street, this is a sashimi restaurant you have to try.

Squid live set served on a large platter

What's in the 62,000-won squid live set?

Wow, jackpot, hahaha. Squid sashimi, assorted live fish sashimi, and even squid fritters came out on a genuinely huge plate — I was so surprised. Absolutely loaded!!!! Highly recommend the squid live set.

I paused for a moment wondering what to eat first, hahahaha.

Freshly fried, crispy squid fritters

Gotta eat the fritters while they're hot, hahaha. The crispy, piping-hot, freshly fried squid fritters were genuinely delicious.

Dining hall with lunchtime customers

I was surprised at how many people were there for sashimi at lunchtime, hahaha. Other tables were also ordering the squid live set or the live octopus set. The value for money is truly amazing, haha.

Assorted sashimi with flounder fin and salmon

The flounder fin was nutty and delicious, and the salmon was fatty, soft, and tasty too.

Plate of chewy live squid sashimi

Precious squid sashimi, properly enjoyed after a long while

Maybe because it had been a while since I'd had squid sashimi, it was really, really good, haha. Squid prices got so expensive for a while that people were calling it "gold squid." It's precious squid sashimi indeed.

Assorted sashimi with salmon, flounder, and rockfish

The assorted sashimi came with salmon, flounder, and rockfish, so it was nice getting to try a variety. You absolutely have to order the Mr. Squid set.

A summer lunch of sashimi instead of rice

Having sashimi instead of rice for lunch was so nice. Sashimi doesn't put on weight, doesn't put on weight, hahahaha. The live squid sashimi was the best of all.

Dipping sashimi in chogochujang (vinegared chili paste) — so good, so good, hahaha. Wrapping it neatly in perilla leaves too. Since it's summer, the fish is fresh and this Jukjeon sashimi restaurant is doing brisk business, so you really have to try it.

Squid live set plate near the end of the meal

The squid sashimi was truly more delicious than the regular sashimi at this Bojeong-dong sashimi restaurant in Yongin. I'd recommend it as a Jukjeon squid sashimi spot with fresh, chewy squid in summer.
