Hi, I'm Bori! This summer my husband and I went to Jeju together for the first time in a while. Maybe because it had been so long since we'd flown somewhere, Jeju felt especially good this time. The sky was pretty, the breeze was nice, and it was a trip where I felt at ease the whole time.

While searching for restaurants near the Grand Hyatt Jeju, I came across Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi. Since it's close to Jeju Airport and in a convenient location, we didn't have to think too hard about where to eat dinner. It's known as a popular restaurant in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju, so we went in half excited, half curious.

The staff greeted us warmly the moment we walked in, and that really stood out to me! From seating us to explaining the menu, they took care of everything so kindly that even though we'd just arrived in Jeju, I immediately felt at ease. Finding a place that pays this much attention to you while traveling just makes you happy 😊 While the meat was grilling, they kept checking on it, flipping it at just the right timing, and even cutting the well-cooked parts for us, so all we had to do was eat comfortably.

What side dishes and steamed egg come with the meal?

The basic table setting at Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi includes lettuce and perilla leaves for wraps, salad, kimchi, and steamed egg topped with flying fish roe. It was plenty as an appetizer before the meat arrived.

As soon as we sat down, wrap vegetables like lettuce and perilla leaves, along with salad and kimchi, were set out first.

The plating was pretty too, and it made for a really nice appetizer before the meal!

Two servings of raw galbi: juicy first impression

We first ordered 2 servings of raw galbi. The trimming was clean, and the thickly sliced meat came out sprinkled with salt — just looking at it, you could tell it would be full of juice 🙏

The moment it hit the charcoal, the sound of juices sizzling out was already making my mouth water.

I picked up a piece of the raw galbi that the staff had grilled to a nice golden brown... wow, it was seriously so good 😭 No gamey smell at all, just clean meat flavor coming through — you could really taste that light yet rich flavor unique to raw galbi.

Eating it with the scallion salad was the perfect finishing touch. The thicker cuts had a satisfying chew, tender yet springy, and my husband and I both kept saying how good it was.

Adding a third serving of raw galbi

It was so good we ordered one more serving of raw galbi. Usually when the two of us go to a meat restaurant we order 2 servings, but this day we really feasted for once.

Raw galbi tastes even better dipped in the salt sauce or eaten with scallion salad rather than wrapped in lettuce! That way you get more of the original flavor of the raw galbi.

Bon house special marinated pork ribs, the signature dish

We also ordered the house special marinated pork ribs, said to be the restaurant's signature dish. We both ate it with admiration.

The marinade wasn't overpowering, just gently sweet with a clear savory depth. As it grilled to a golden brown on the charcoal, the scent of the marinade slightly caramelizing rose up, and that smell alone was enough to build anticipation 🙏

When I picked up a piece, the outside was slightly chewy while the inside stayed moist and full of juice, and since the marinade wasn't too strong, we could keep eating without getting tired of it. I could clearly see why this dish is the signature menu.

Normally when the two of us go out, 2 servings is just about right for us, but by the time we came to our senses this day, we'd eaten almost 4 servings.. That's how much our hands couldn't stop reaching for more.

Honestly, when you're traveling, the meals you have each day can often just blur together, but I think the dinner we had at Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi during our Jeju trip will stay memorable for a long time. Great meat plus kind service from the staff really boosted how satisfying the whole trip felt!
