Naengsam for two with cold noodles near Suwon Station: Taejang Sikdang

Hi everyone! I had dinner near Suwon Station with Dal-nim after a while — we both love naengsam (frozen pork belly), and we'd had an amazing meal at a Taejang Sikdang before, so even though this wasn't the same branch, I went to Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch carrying those good memories.

Where is Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch, and where can you park?

It's right in the middle of Suwon Station's Rodeo Street, inside a big arcade building. It's on the 2nd floor, within a 10-minute walk of Suwon Station. There's no dedicated parking lot, so you'll need to use a nearby paid lot.

They have the whole 2nd floor to themselves. This place is famous for naengsam near Suwon Station, so I was worried about getting a table — we went right around dinnertime on a weekday, maybe 6pm?

Plenty of people were already eating. By the time we finished, it was nearly full. For a BBQ spot on the 2nd floor to be this packed, it really must be a famous restaurant near Suwon Station.

What caught my eye was the retro interior — the kind of decor that would make our parents' generation nostalgic, haha. It was fun just looking around at the interior.

The side dishes that fill the tray table

You can't have naengsam without this tray-table — if you don't know the naengsam vibe, get out ;;;; Every naengsam place serves it on a retro tray like this as standard, but the range of side dishes and dipping sauces here was seriously varied. I care a lot about the accompaniments, and I'd have no complaints if every BBQ place served as much as Taejang Sikdang does.

Ordering 3 servings of naengsam: staff grill the first round

We started by ordering 3 servings of naengsam, and it seems the staff only grill the first round for you!

They grilled it together with bean sprouts, bracken fern, and kimchi on top.

Naengsam is pretty much the same everywhere, but I don't know why this place tastes so good...

It's not like it's some crazy special flavor — it's just... delicious. Maybe it's the abundance of sides and the way they pair with the naengsam, but it just tastes extra good here — Taejang Sikdang, a famous BBQ spot near Suwon Station!

Egg-yolk dipping sauce and salted hairtail gut (galchi sokjeot)

There's something like galchi-sokjeot (salted hairtail intestines), plus a wasabi-egg-yolk ssamjang sauce. It's sweet and delicious. I often see this at naengsam places — maybe it's teriyaki-based? Not totally sure, but it's sweet and tasty. Dip it and pile on scallion strips, bracken fern, or kimchi — really good.

Pork and soju, an unbeatable combo! Dal-nim and I had a drink together after a while — she seemed happy to have naengsam again after so long, because she cleared two whole bottles of soju.

The grilled kimchi was delicious too, and they have garlic scapes marinated in soy sauce — also so good. It pairs well with wasabi, and there was a good variety of lettuce wraps too, so wrapping bites was great. It's not called a top naengsam spot near Suwon Station for nothing — I really, really loved this place.

Dal-nim really eats with gusto haha — comparing our plates, mine looked so pathetic ㅜㅜ

Mul-naengmyeon: cut small and eaten by the spoonful

We also ordered one mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup). We like to cut the noodles into small pieces with scissors and eat them with a spoon, haha — eaten this way, the noodles just slide right in. You should try it too, haha.

Fried rice to finish: 4 servings of naengsam cleared by two

Finally we topped it off with fried rice and felt like our stomachs would burst. Between the two of us we cleared 4 servings of naengsam plus noodles and fried rice, and walked out patting our full bellies.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great naengsam BBQ place near Suwon Station. There's a wide range of side dishes, and above all, the staff were so friendly. They were all young staff, but genuinely warm and kind, with quick service — a place near Suwon Station that has both great food and great service.
