Gochujang mayo chicken thigh poke bowl in Hyehwa, Seoul: Sallering
In short
Sallering Daehak-ro is a bibim poke and salad restaurant on Daehak-ro 10-gil near Hyehwa Station in Jongno, Seoul. Starting a diet and trying poke for the first time, the writer ordered the grilled chicken thigh bibim poke at 18,600 won, added salmon for 4,000 won and onion flakes for 500 won, chose the vegetables-only base, and picked the recommended gochujang mayo sauce. A solo lunch in Daehak-ro, Hyehwa, and my first ever poke salad challenge, at Sallering Daehak-ro.
A first poke bowl, eaten solo at Sallering Daehak-ro in Hyehwa
While looking for a solo lunch spot in Daehak-ro, Hyehwa, I ended up at a salad place I don't usually go to. Since I've started dieting and wanted a healthy meal, I visited Sallering Daehak-ro — here begins my first poke challenge.

The store has mostly two-seater tables, so eating alone here felt totally comfortable. Seems like a solid spot for anyone in Daehak-ro or Hyehwa looking for a healthy solo meal.

The tables were all green-toned too, so I felt healthier just sitting down before I'd even eaten haha.

The origin of ingredients was clearly labeled, and there was a meal voucher event running too — worth noting if you're planning a visit.

How do you order a poke bowl at Sallering Daehak-ro?
At Sallering Daehak-ro, you order from the kiosk right beside the entrance. (For meal vouchers, order directly with staff!)

Since it was my first time ordering poke, I wasn't sure what to pick, but the order steps and matching sauce recommendations were clearly guided, so it wasn't hard at all.
First you choose dine-in or takeout, then pick your menu — bibim poke salad, wrap, soup, and so on. For the bibim poke salad, you choose a base from all-vegetables, brown rice with barley, whole wheat pasta, or shredded egg, then pick a dressing and extra toppings. That's it, order done!

There were quite a lot of bibim poke salad varieties, plus protein balls, pasta, slim pack lunchboxes, and diet detox drinks — a pretty wide menu.

While I was in the store, a Toss app notification popped up. Apparently paying with FacePay gets you ₩6,000 off at Sallering Daehak-ro, so make sure to grab that discount when ordering.

I wanted both salmon and chicken, so I added salmon on top of the grilled chicken thigh.
For the sauce, I picked the gochujang mayo that was recommended for the grilled chicken thigh bibim poke!
How does the grilled chicken thigh and salmon bibim poke taste?
Sallering Daehak-ro's grilled chicken thigh and salmon bibim poke salad comes served in a single bowl, and it felt much more substantial than I expected.

Since I chose the all-vegetable base, there were plenty of veggies on the bottom, and mixed in were mushrooms, crab sticks, egg, quail eggs, cherry tomatoes, corn kernels, and more — fun to pick through one by one.

Started with the added salmon, yum. I love raw salmon so I added it, and it tasted like raw salmon but with a faint smoky note — a strange one 🤣 Still, the firm texture was nice, and it went well with the crunchy vegetables!

Surprisingly, the grilled chicken thigh was the tastiest! I thought I'd ordered chicken breast, but turns out it was thigh meat? Being grilled thigh, it had a nice aroma and was juicy. Salads and poke really do suit chicken more than salmon! It went perfectly with the gochujang mayo sauce too — really delicious.

Adding onion flakes as a topping was also a great call. Every bite added a crunchy texture, making the bibim poke salad more fun to eat. Definitely add this one!
