Why Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch after shopping at Starfield Suwon?

I went to Starfield Suwon a while back! There was so much to shop and browse that mealtime slipped by before I knew it. While looking for somewhere to eat, I was craving something warm and soupy that day, so I picked shabu-shabu~ Sodamchon caught my eye as a Starfield Suwon restaurant, so I paid it a visit!

Shabu-shabu is a menu where you can pick ingredients to your taste, so it's not too much of a burden even when you visit with a group. I liked that here you can enjoy not just shabu-shabu but also spring rolls, both all-you-can-eat!

Mushroom shabu, half spicy and half mild broth, and what's on the refill bar

What I ordered was the mushroom shabu, and I picked the broth split half spicy, half mild. One side spicy, one side mild — it was fun switching between the two broths.

The refill bar had enoki mushrooms, hand-torn dough soup, kalguksu noodles, dumplings, and various vegetables all set out, so you could grab whatever ingredients you wanted to add yourself!

Soupy tteokbokki is on the Sodamchon refill bar too

Having soupy tteokbokki (rice cakes in broth) was a huge plus! I really love tteokbokki so I went back for it several times. It wasn't too spicy either, so I don't think it would divide opinion among any age group~

Are the spring rolls all-you-can-eat at Sodamchon?

Another thing that stood out at Sodamchon: the spring rolls are also all-you-can-eat! The refill bar has rice paper and spring roll ingredients set out, so you just grab what you want and wrap it yourself~ Eating it alongside the shabu-shabu meant I could enjoy a much wider variety instead of sticking to just one dish!

The hot water needed to soften the rice paper was set up conveniently, like a water dispenser, so it was easy to use.

The mushroom shabu spread and the order to eat it in

The mushroom shabu was ready~ Ordering mushroom shabu gets you mushrooms and meat as the base. Once the broth starts boiling, you cook the meat and mushrooms one piece at a time!

Meat and mushrooms in the basic mushroom shabu spread

One side spicy, one side mild — switching between the two broths was fun. I started by cleanly eating mushrooms and vegetables in the mild broth, then moving to the spicy broth completely changed the flavor, so even the same ingredients felt like a different dish!

The split broth pot coming to a boil

I put meat, sweet pumpkin, mushrooms, and various vegetables into the split broth~ The meat is thinly sliced, so once the broth boils it cooks quickly and stays soft. The sweet pumpkin turned soft and fluffy as it cooked, adding a gentle sweetness! Cooking the mushrooms and vegetables together meant their flavors naturally soaked into the broth, making it deeper the more you ate.

You can't skip the spring rolls at Sodamchon! Picking whatever ingredients you like, putting them in the rice paper, and rolling it up yourself was fun since everyone can mix and match to their own taste~ Best of all, it felt like eating a healthy meal.

Shabu-shabu with mushrooms, fried tofu skin and rice cakes added

I also tried adding mushrooms, fried tofu skin, and rice cakes. As the ingredients mingled in the warm broth, I got to enjoy each one's own texture and flavor. The chewy rice cakes especially soaked up the broth beautifully~

Finishing with fried rice and egg porridge

With the leftover broth from the shabu-shabu, you can add fried rice and egg to make porridge. Since it's broth that's simmered with meat and vegetables, the flavor naturally deepens, making it even more delicious.

The finished shabu-shabu porridge

Finishing with the warm, simmered porridge left me really full and satisfied. From shabu-shabu to spring rolls, kalguksu and dumplings, and finally porridge — I properly ate a full meal.
