What kind of Yeongjongdo café is 5PM sunset hour?

5PM sunset hour is a café and bakery on the ground floor of the KCC Swiss shopping block in Yeongjong Haneul City. It is open every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (last order 18:00). Parking, takeout and reservations are available, the restrooms are separate for men and women, and groups are welcome, they say.

Last weekend, I took a trip to Yeongjongdo with my husband and daughter to get some fresh air. We had a yummy meal, then a proper dessert break at a pretty café. Yeongjongdo has so many famous, lovely cafés, but the one we visited this time is a little special: a hidden gem inside an apartment shopping block. The bread and coffee were far better than I expected, and I fell for it right away!

The café we visited, 5PM sunset hour, really did look like a "sunset", just like its name.

Orange exterior with outdoor and indoor seating

Even from outside, the shop is decorated in a bright orange main color that suits the name "sunset".

I thought the mix of orange and red was stylish and worked really well together.

There are plenty of both outdoor and indoor tables, so on a nice day it would be perfect for a coffee out in the breeze.

On one side of the shop, they kindly post the times when the bread comes out! You can park in the outdoor parking lot of the apartment shopping block.

I love this kind of cute, cozy interior, and it hit my taste exactly!

I wanted that orange clock so badly. The folding orange chair also matched the mood here perfectly, so I unfolded it and sat down!

Can you still order at 5PM sunset hour just before closing?

We arrived at 5PM sunset hour almost right at closing time, and the owner gladly took our order. ⏰

I walked in worried they might not take our order, but the owner, who had such a kind, warm face, happily accepted it. Even though it was nearly closing time, they were the first to say warmly, "Please take your time and enjoy," and I was so touched.

These days a lot of places make you feel awkward if you go right before closing, but thanks to the owner's warm consideration, we felt relaxed and happy the whole time. Taste aside, this kindness alone makes me want to come back.

They also sell set menus and a mango latte, FYI. A jiu-jitsu gym, the café and a running crew are collaborating on a running meetup! If I lived in Yeongjongdo, I think I'd want to join in! haha

I wasn't going to order bread, but after seeing the prices I ended up getting three, haha. We had come straight from a meal, so we couldn't finish it all. I ate one and took two home!

How was the ice cream salt bread?

My daughter picked the ice cream salt bread (₩5,000) herself, and the warm, crispy bread with cold ice cream was so good. I have no idea when she spotted it, but she ordered it on her own ^^

The bread was crispy and warm while the ice cream was cold, and she ate it up happily! Back home, she kept bragging to her big brother about how good the ice cream salt bread was ^^

The cranberry scone even my bread-averse husband ate

A whole spread of drinks and bread came out for my husband and me! Yes, we really had just eaten a big meal. haha

The sunset-themed cup holder also fit the mood of 5PM sunset hour so well~! My husband doesn't like bread, but when he saw me enjoying the cranberry scone, he followed along. And then he said the bread was good!

Our son wolfed down the salt bread and financier we brought home! 5PM sunset hour was a fresh discovery! I come near here for a run now and then, and I thought I'd stop in for coffee then too~ They open at 7 a.m., by the way! ^^

How does the ice cream in the ice cream latte taste?

The ice cream on my husband's ice cream latte wasn't too sweet and had a nice milky flavor. I love wandering cafés, and wherever I go I like to try the coffee or the local bread (maybe that's why I can't lose weight?)

I tasted the ice cream from my husband's coffee too, and it wasn't too sweet, with a nice milky flavor. It tasted like the ice cream you'd get at a place like Samyang Ranch(?)!

Is 5PM sunset hour in Yeongjongdo worth a return visit?

5PM sunset hour, with its stylish orange interior, opens as early as 7 a.m., a hidden neighborhood hangout that's easy to drop into anytime. Even late, right before closing, the owner welcomed us with a smile, and that warmth and kindness stayed with us the whole visit.

From the latte with rich Sanghamokjang ice cream and the ice cream salt bread to the great-value, tasty bakery items, it won over everyone's taste buds. With tasty food, kind service and good prices all in one, I've saved it as my all-time favorite café and plan to stop by like a regular every time I come to Yeongjongdo to run.
