Finding Jindoken: second floor down a Seongsu alley, Jindo dog logo sign

Jindoken Seongsu Branch sits on the 2nd floor of a building with Seongsu Terjeon (a pork grill place) on the ground floor. It's tucked into an alley, which made it kind of fun to hunt down. There's a round wooden sign hanging over the entrance carved with a Jindo dog silhouette logo, with "JINDOKEN · Japanese dining · SEONGSU" glowing stylishly under soft lantern light ✨
Is the interior at Jindoken good for a date?
Once you step inside Jindoken Seongsu Branch, you find an industrial space with exposed concrete walls paired with warm bulb-toned lighting.

Around the bar counter there's a welcome sign, dried flowers, and cute Jindo dog figurines — little Japanese-style touches everywhere that made browsing fun 🐾 A noren curtain with the JINDOKEN logo hangs there, and behind it a wide selection of sake and spirits are displayed. It was fun just looking at the drink selection. The tables have decent spacing, so it's quiet and good for a date! Even though every table was full when we went, it never felt loud — just cozy.

There's a whiteboard on the wall covered in scribbles (?) from visitors — you can tell there are a lot of regulars. Little details like that always make a place feel warm haha. The restroom is unisex but done up neatly in marble tile, which I liked.

What we ordered at Jindoken: the 69,000-won set and Kaori Ranman junmai ginjo

🐟 Assorted sashimi, 7 kinds for 35,000 won

It came with tuna, salmon, abalone, shrimp, and yellowtail — and the fish was genuinely so, so fresh! The flesh was firm and springy with zero fishy smell.
🍗 Grilled chicken neck, salt or tare sauce

Golden and crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside! I took a bite while it was piping hot and it was so tender with the juices intact that I kept going back for more ㅠㅠ
🍣 Mackerel pressed sushi, 24,000 won

Sesame seeds sprinkled over the top, and the cross-section alone was a total feast for the eyes. The mackerel was prepped so well there was zero fishy taste, and eaten together with the rice, the umami really came through. This honestly feels like a must-order dish here 👍
🍶 Kaori Ranman junmai ginjo: pick your own glass

When we ordered the sake, they let us choose from a variety of glasses to fit our taste — such a nice, surprising touch!

They also served the sake in a chilled bucket, so it stayed nice and cool the whole time we drank it. I really loved that little detail.
Final verdict: would I go back to Jindoken Seongsu?
- Taste ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (top-notch sashimi freshness, mackerel pressed sushi highly recommended)
- Atmosphere ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (quiet, great for a date)
- Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (sake glass choice, chilled-bucket serving — attentive to detail)
- Price ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (a bit on the higher side, but understandable given the quality)
- Would I revisit: Yes 👍
I'd strongly recommend this to anyone in Seongsu looking for an izakaya with a great atmosphere and truly fresh sashimi! Just don't forget — reservations are a must 🙏
