What is Ieo Coffee Roasters Gongdeok Branch like?

Ieo Coffee Roasters Gongdeok Branch is a cozy, atmospheric roastery café near Gongdeok and Daeheung Stations, perfect for a break while strolling Gyeongui Line Forest Park. I take coffee seriously and love hunting down roasteries, and this place hit my taste from the interior to the dessert lineup.

Wood-toned interior and open kitchen

Around the counter, white and warm wood tones blend together and make the whole place feel calm. Deep green U-shaped rail lights on the ceiling add a stylish accent. One wall is finished in a rough, vintage style, like broken brick, and the way the space is divided through it was really striking.

In front of the counter there's a cute mini stand light, little succulent pots, and a neat blue mini calendar showing today's date. It's an open kitchen, so you can watch the owner and staff carefully making drinks, which makes this Daeheung Station café feel very trustworthy hygiene-wise. Browsing the goose poster and little props next to the counter was a lot of fun too.

What are the menu, prices and seasonal items?

The prices of what I ordered that day were: Basque cheesecake ₩5,700, vanilla latte ₩5,500, Einspänner ₩4,800 and lemon pound cake ₩4,000. The menu sits in a clean wood frame with handwritten-style lettering, neatly sorted into coffee, signature and non-coffee drinks.

Above the menu is a handwritten 'Seasonal Menu' sign on a coffee filter paper with a cute cat drawing, listing unusual items like plum granita and summer crumble affogato. The owner's thoughtful touch really shows. In front of it were a mini coffee cup model with latte art, plus Ieo Coffee's capsule boxes and drip bags, neatly displayed, which would make nice gifts.

I went all in: a vanilla latte and an Einspänner, plus Basque cheesecake and lemon pound cake for dessert. Everything came out on a tray, and the cup and plate pairings and the plating were so pretty that I couldn't help taking photos before eating.

How were the vanilla latte and the Einspänner?

Vanilla latte ₩5,500: subtle, deep vanilla aroma

Ieo's vanilla latte (₩5,500) tasted of subtle, deep vanilla rather than syrup. It came in a signature cup in pretty layers: soft milk at the bottom and strong espresso shots blending upward like a gradient. Even without stirring, it had a refined vanilla aroma rather than a cheap syrupy taste, and I was very happy with it. Maybe because the beans themselves are great, it was clean with no harshness, and a rich nuttiness wrapped softly around my mouth. I'd strongly recommend it if you like your coffee sweet but strong.

Einspänner ₩4,800: cloud-like cream and bittersweet coffee

Ieo's Einspänner (a coffee topped with whipped cream) at ₩4,800 was superb quality for the price. It came brimming in a glass and looked amazing. The cream on top had a soft, fluffy texture like a cloud, and the bittersweet espresso and essence spreading over the cream looked stylish.

I scooped up just the cream with a spoon: dense yet melting sweetly in my mouth, a work of art. Then the bittersweet coffee underneath rushed in and cut the sweetness, a perfect balance. I kept marveling the whole time I drank it. A fitting signature for this Daeheung Station café.

How were the Basque cheesecake and lemon pound cake?

Basque cheesecake ₩5,700: with a scoop of fresh cream

Ieo's Basque cheesecake (₩5,700) was a classic one, served with a scoop of soft fresh cream. The desserts lived up to my expectations too. It came on a stylish round plate with a speckled pattern, and the surface was baked appetizingly smoky. Cutting in with a fork, the inside was very moist and dense, and the moment it hit my mouth, a rich cream cheese flavor spread and melted away. Dipping it in the cream next to it made it even softer, and it paired perfectly with a strong Einspänner or latte.

Lemon pound cake ₩4,000: zesty lemon glaze

Ieo's lemon pound cake (₩4,000) was a thick slice with white lemon glaze that had run down and set. It came on a clean beige plate, and the glaze flowing down like a waterfall looked lovely. Cutting off a bite with a fork, the pound cake wasn't dry; it was moderately fluffy while keeping a satisfying heft. The tangy, sweet lemon glaze on top popped with every bite, giving a pleasantly refreshing feel. The sweet-and-sour balance was so charming that I kept reaching for more even though I was full. Seriously addictive.
