Mild jokbal for a pregnant friend in Guro, Seoul: The Jokbal Sindorim

In short

The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch is a jokbal (Korean braised pork trotter) restaurant on the first floor of the Sindorim 3-cha Prugio Apartment shops in Guro, Seoul, between Guro and Sindorim stations. Meeting a pregnant friend who needed something that was neither grilled nor spicy, the writer ordered the front leg jokbal with a half-and-half of spicy jokbal, and the herbal aroma and sweetness stayed light so the seasoning landed just right. Adding a rice ball made the meal filling enough that the buckwheat noodle platter was never needed.

Why The Jokbal Sindorim works for dinner with a pregnant friend

I had dinner with a friend at The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch, a well-known spot near Guro Station. We were looking for something that didn't need grilling and wasn't spicy or harsh, but still felt nourishing — so we settled on jokbal (pork trotters).

Honestly, we hadn't met all summer, so this reunion dinner was long overdue. Super TMI but haha, my friend is pregnant, so picking what to eat was trickier than usual. So here's the review from The Jokbal near Guro Station, where we ate well and walked out patting our full bellies haha.

What one table of front leg and spicy jokbal looks like

We ordered a half-and-half jokbal with front leg on one side and spicy jokbal on the other. Since it had been a while since I'd had jokbal, I agonized over what to pick.

A close-up shot of the plain jokbal first! Look at that glossy sheen — it just looks so good...

A close-up of the spicy jokbal too! It's been a while since I had spicy jokbal, so I was pretty excited haha.

The wrap vegetables — perilla leaves, lettuce, cabbage — and seasoned chives also came out with the food!

How the front leg jokbal and flame-grilled spicy jokbal taste

The front leg jokbal at The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch wasn't overpoweringly medicinal-tasting, nor too caramel-sweet or salty — the seasoning was just right. The spicy jokbal wasn't too intense either, so it was easy to enjoy with my pregnant friend.

First bite was the front leg jokbal. It came out hot right away, which was nice.

It's delicious eaten with chives. The crunch of the chives and the tenderness of the meat went really, really well together haha.

Then a bite of the spicy jokbal! Again, not too harsh, not too spicy, but also not lacking in spice either? Hahaha. It was a familiar kind of sauce, but the balance was just right, so it was really tasty. Overall, the seasoning at this Guro Station jokbal restaurant was spot on — personally, I was very, very satisfied~

The 3,000-won rice ball and the free cold jokbal

We immediately added a rice ball (₩3,000) to go with the spicy jokbal, and a cold jokbal came out as a complimentary service. You can't have spicy jokbal without a rice ball, right...???

The rice ball ordered as an add-on

My friend, shaping the rice ball like a little dung beetle rolling its ball haha, made really nice round rice balls! Thanks to her, I got to eat comfortably!

Neatly rolled rice balls

Time to eat the front leg jokbal again before I forget! Wrap it in perilla leaf and lettuce, add chives, top it with garlic, and you've got a perfect bite that hits all the macros! They gave us plenty of garlic too, so no complaints there.

The complimentary cold jokbal

We also had the cold jokbal that came as a service. That tangy taste would work great as an appetizer too. It's a jokbal party today hahaha.

Is the buckwheat noodle platter needed for two people?

We didn't order the buckwheat noodle platter today, but the jokbal portion was already huge, and with the rice ball added, ordering more would have been a disaster haha.

The staff were really kind, the seating was spacious and relaxed, and everything from the main dish to the sides was delicious — I'd definitely come back!!! That was my review of The Jokbal, a great restaurant near Guro Station haha.
