Duck on a Ganghwa trip: Deok Ori Jumulleok on Manisan-ro
A must-visit restaurant if you're heading to Ganghwa 🪿

We went on a trip to Ganghwa for this summer's vacation! Ganghwa is a great place to drive out to from Seoul or Incheon, and there's plenty to slowly explore like Jeondeungsa Temple or Mani Mountain, so it's perfect even as a day trip :) This time we tried duck! We went into Deok Ori Jumulleok on Manisan-ro to try the duck.

Inside Deok Ori Jumulleok and its self-serve side bar
The interior at Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch was really spacious! The tables had a comfortable amount of space between them too, so it worked well for a couple like us, but it'd be just as good for a family meal out :) There's also a self-serve bar set up inside where you can grab whatever side dishes you need yourself, so we could help ourselves any time during the meal without feeling self-conscious!

Menu lineup and what the couple ordered
On top of duck jumulleok, there was a great range of menu items like shrimp, baby octopus and samchae (three-color onion) :) We ordered the duck jumulleok! One of the defining features here is that the duck jumulleok comes pre-grilled over charcoal first!

Since it comes out having already gone through that initial charcoal grilling, the cooking time at the table is shorter, which was even better! That subtle smoky charcoal flavor was the perfect touch 🔥 The duck coated in red seasoning arrived plated together with vegetables, and my mouth was already watering!

We finally put it on the grill and started cooking it little by little! As the duck released its fat and mingled with the seasoning, and the vegetables cooked alongside it, even just the smell was amazing :) The seasoning was seasoned just right, so it was seriously so good 😋

Once the meat had cooked through a bit, we picked up a piece to try! We could taste the duck's distinctive savory flavor along with the spiciness of the seasoning and that subtle smoky charcoal note :) It was even better wrapped up in a lettuce wrap!

How to eat duck jumulleok in a perilla leaf wrap
Piling pickled radish and vegetables onto a perilla leaf and eating it all in one bite gave a mix of textures in the mouth that kept me reaching for more! Since the duck itself has a fairly strong flavor, pairing it with the clean, refreshing side dishes struck exactly the right balance 😋

Finishing with cheese fried rice: how it's done
After finishing everything, we ordered fried rice on top and gave it a try! Adding cheese to the fried rice made it even more savory and delicious :) If you leave about a third of the meat and drippings behind, the owner will fry it up deliciously for you, so I'd recommend leaving some behind before getting the fried rice going haha 😆 Duck really is the perfect menu item when you want a hearty meal, so it was such a fitting choice for a travel meal 😁
We even captured Deok Ori Jumulleok cooking away on video :) It was a fantastic restaurant where you could really taste how deeply and evenly the seasoning had soaked in, with such varied flavor, so next time we come back to Ganghwa, I think we'll drop by again without hesitation 🪿
Final verdict on Deok Ori Jumulleok
We had duck jumulleok at a restaurant near Jeondeungsa Temple in Ganghwa! Wrapping up plenty of fresh vegetables with the duck that had a subtle charcoal aroma, then finishing off hearty with savory cheese fried rice at the end, was truly perfect. Above all, tasting duck that was clean and free of any gamey smell yet deeply flavorful, while fully soaking up Ganghwa's own laid-back drive-course atmosphere, made it an even more memorable time. If you're looking for a can't-go-wrong, satisfying meal while enjoying a weekend outing or a light drive from Seoul or nearby areas, it's worth stopping by 😁
