I was craving pork galbi drenched in sauce, so I headed to Ilpum Chamsut Galbi, a well-known restaurant in Dunpo, Asan. It's near Techno Valley, so the weekday lunch special is popular — but even on a weekend visit, the place was packed.

Inside the restaurant and seating for groups
The interior of Ilpum Chamsut Galbi doesn't feel as spacious as it looks from outside, but the tables are large enough that it never felt cramped. There are lots of connected tables too, which makes it a great spot for a group lunch or gathering with coworkers nearby!
Right next to the table: cups, tissues, wet wipes and paper cups, all set.

As soon as we sat down, they brought over the charcoal, and it got hot fast. It wasn't too warm in the room, but the heat coming off the charcoal itself was intense. Charcoal gives off a steady, consistent heat and subtle aroma that really boosts the flavor of the meat, so honestly, that heat is worth putting up with for the taste, haha.
This popular Dunpo, Asan restaurant has been around for 20 years. They apparently slice and marinate the pork fresh every dawn, keeping the quality consistent day after day. That's why they have so many longtime regulars — same great taste every visit 👍

The pork galbi uses domestic and American pork, served in 250g portions. The house-made sauce is sweet with plenty of umami, making this a solid pick for seasoned galbi in Asan. The Jeju pork belly delivers a completely different flavor — it really convinced me that Jeju-raised pork just tastes better. There are noodle dishes to pair with the meat too, and side dishes like skate and seasoned crab, which are also part of the standard side dish spread — so you can taste them first and then order a full portion if you like them, haha.
Free side dishes: corn cheese, steamed egg and seasoned raw crab
The standard side dishes at Ilpum Chamsut Galbi are generous — corn cheese, steamed egg, seasoned crab, and steamed skate all come included. Seems like this is just how pork galbi restaurants do it around here.

The fresh cabbage salad was so good, and the seasoned crab was so good too. Honestly every side dish that came out was delicious... you could tell this place really knows how to cook.

A refreshing salad to whet the appetite, plus cool, clean-tasting mukbap (acorn jelly rice bowl) 💜

Corn cheese is included as standard?! 🤤 If you finish it and want more, a refill is just 1,000 won. It was so sweet and delicious we ended up ordering a whole extra plate, haha.
Steamed egg is also standard... talk about premium basics at this Dunpo, Asan restaurant. I was about to order one, but the staff let me know it came included by default, so I luckily avoided a double steamed-egg situation, hahaha.

Apparently some regulars come just for this dish — the steamed skate, which has a slightly spicy-sweet flavor that's exactly the kind of thing you'd want with a bowl of rice. It wasn't quite my taste, but I could see older diners loving it.
What is the 180g Jeju pork belly like?
The Jeju pork belly at Ilpum Chamsut Galbi is 18,000 won for 180g, though it felt closer to 200g, so the price seemed fair. I honestly didn't expect to run into Jeju pork belly here.
It came out as two large chunks, which was the perfect portion. Eating just the pork galbi felt a little limited, so I found the perfect complementary dish by ordering the pork belly too.

When you order seasoned pork galbi and pork belly together, they give you a separate grill plate so the pork belly can go on first. They grilled it up nice and golden, then cut it into easy-to-eat pieces.

Even after grilling, it shrank a little but stayed nice and thick, giving plenty to chew on — this Jeju pork belly in Asan delivered!
The Jeju pork belly had a deep, savory meaty aroma 🤤 It held onto its juices well, so you could really enjoy the full flavor. There was more lean meat than fat, giving it a firm, springy bite!

Wrapping the well-grilled pork belly in lettuce brought out another layer of flavor entirely. Add a bit of pickled onion for a tangy, refreshing lift, and it's an even brighter bite, haha.

Seasoned pork galbi 250g grilled over charcoal
Ilpum Chamsut Galbi's pork galbi is 16,000 won; we ordered two 250g portions marinated in the house-made sauce. The meat had tight, close-set cross-cuts, and just looking at it, you could tell how tender it would be.
Because it's coated in so much sweet sauce, you have to grill this one carefully and pay close attention. The seasoned pork galbi gets moved to its own grill rack, which really locks in the charcoal aroma properly.

Since it's marinated, it can burn fast, so you have to keep flipping it and never look away, haha. All that careful attention pays off — the aroma alone gets even more tempting.

The sweet marinade seeps right into every cross-cut, giving a perfect balance of sweet and salty. Add the subtle charcoal aroma on top, and even the same cut of meat ends up tasting richer and more fragrant — that's the magic of Ilpum Chamsut Galbi, a favorite restaurant in Dunpo, Asan 😋

Dessert milmyeon at 5,000 won with the pork galbi
Ilpum Chamsut Galbi's dessert milmyeon (cold wheat noodles) is 5,000 won. It's the side dish that absolutely can't be skipped when eating meat here. The cool, refreshing broth completely cuts through the grease from the meat, so even if you're full, it's basically the cheat code that starts round two, haha.

That distinctively clean, refreshing quality of milmyeon pairs especially well with the seasoned pork galbi 😋 It feels like the tangy, cool flavor upgrades the sweet marinade to another level.

The cool broth cuts right through the rich marinade flavor, and that contrast creates an even bigger dopamine hit. It's basically the secret to finishing every last bite without getting tired of it!

Wrapping it up with pickled radish and lettuce also tastes amazing. Intense flavor plus intense flavor can't miss — it's definitely a dopamine-triggering combo, and I loved every bite 🤤
