In short

Suyu Daewang Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Gangbuk, Seoul, where thick pork belly, kimchi, and minari are grilled on a cast-iron pot lid. We ordered 600g of aged fresh whole pork belly, kimchi stew, and muksabal for ₩47,900 for two. Verdict: a generous, satisfying Seoul Korean BBQ dinner.

An evening out for pot-lid pork belly near Suyu Station

It had been so long since my boyfriend and I had been craving meat, haha. We rushed over to Suyu Station after work for pot-lid pork belly, and it was seriously delicious!!! Ahh.

Come out of Exit 7 at Suyu Station and walk straight through the Suyu food alley—you'll arrive in no time!

Sumeogeum Dwaeji and Daewang Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal are the same restaurant. The sign is huge, so it was easy to spot, haha. A platter of 600g of pork belly for ₩29,000—I was so excited 😏

Spacious interior of Suyu Daewang Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal

A spacious dining room and the menu

The interior was spacious, so it looked great for family meals or gatherings too. There were lots of tables, and I think you could dine a little more leisurely on weekdays! It would probably be bustling on weekends 🥺

There were high chairs set up inside too 😀

Now for the menu! There were so many options. The beef platter for two to three people was also a good-value ₩48,000. The pork belly is ₩29,000 for 600g too 🥹 There were loads of side dishes as well, and I spotted muksabal, one of my favorites... I immediately decided I had to order it. Since the meat is inexpensive here, there is a ₩2,000 table-setting fee per person. Just keep that in mind if you go!!

Guide to the restaurant's self-service corner

There was also a self-service corner, so we could freely bring back extra side dishes and vegetables. But don't leave food behind..🥲!!

There was such a variety: kimchi, bean sprouts, garlic chives, onions, wrap vegetables, and more 😀

There were two of us, so this is what we ordered—and we were more than full.

  • Aged fresh whole pork belly, 600g (₩29,000)
  • Kimchi stew (₩5,900)
  • Muksabal (₩5,000)
  • 2 bowls of rice (₩2,000)
  • Soft drink (₩2,000)
  • Table-setting fee for 2 (₩4,000)
  • Total: ₩47,900
Pork belly order for two

When you order fresh pork belly, the basic spread comes with all sorts of things, including kimchi, bean sprouts, shredded scallions, onion sauce, and onions.

I tried the kimchi before grilling it, and it was so good..

Sweet and tangy seasoned shredded scallions

The seasoned shredded scallions were sweet, tangy, and so delicious too.

How was the 600g aged fresh whole pork belly?

Aged fresh whole pork belly, 600g

The first menu item I really want to recommend is the main event: 600g of aged fresh whole pork belly!

Thick 600g portion of aged fresh whole pork belly

The first thing that caught my eye when the pork belly arrived was, of course, its thickness—it was seriously thick!

The thick cut of aged whole pork belly

Knowing it was aged whole pork belly made me even more excited to taste it 🫢

Whole pork belly grilling on a cast-iron pot lid

When you grill the thick pork belly until golden, the outside gets crisp while the inside stays moist—ahh~. Grilling minari (water dropwort), kimchi, bean sprouts, and more right on the pot lid to eat with it was such a perfect match; the pork belly was incredibly delicious 😆

Kimchi grilled in the fat from the meat—everyone knows that flavor, right?

Personally, my favorite was wrapping the meat with minari!! The minari fragrance was so fresh and aromatic that I just kept reaching for more, haha.

Kimchi stew and muksabal sides

Kimchi stew

Kimchi stew served with pork belly

A stew is essential with meat, so I debated doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) and chose kimchi stew 😗

Kimchi stew with tofu and meat

The kimchi stew was packed with tofu, Cheongyang chili peppers, meat, and kimchi, with such a pleasantly spicy kick. I really recommend getting the kimchi stew as a side!

Muksabal

Muksabal side dish

Summer is almost over, but I can't give up muksabal (chilled acorn jelly soup). It's honestly one of my all-time favorite foods 😍

Tangy muksabal filled with acorn jelly

I tried the broth first, and it was tangy, packed with acorn jelly, and such a generous portion for the price. I really, really recommend it as a side dish. I think I'll order muksabal again next time I come.

A generous finish for two

The meat we piled up and ate••🥩 It grilled up so beautifully golden that I had to take a photo. We scraped up every last bit. I was honestly so much fuller than I expected!!! It was such a happy dinner 🩵

Near my home at Suyu Station, we had the combination of 600g fresh pork belly + muksabal + kimchi stew, and it was a great, generous meal for two overall. In particular, at ₩29,000 for 600g, the fresh pork belly seems like a good choice for anyone who wants plenty of pork belly. It feels like the kind of place I'd think of for a relaxed meat meal with friends, or for pork belly and a shot of soju after work! I think I'll come back for the same combination next time, haha.
