Ingye-dong pork bone soup for a pregnant diner in Suwon: Eolkeunhan

I'd finally passed 28 weeks of pregnancy, so my husband and I went and got our whooping cough shots together. After the shot, I somehow felt like I needed a really hearty meal, so we decided to check out a pork bone soup place nearby. I'd never been to this one before — apparently it's a branch of a restaurant that's famous in Cheonan, now opened in Ingye-dong.

Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch is close to Suwon City Hall Station, so it was easy to get to by public transportation.

If you drive, they give you 2 hours of free parking in the building's underground lot. The inside was really spacious and clean. There were so many tables that it seemed like it'd work well whether you're going solo or with a group.

Inside the hall: group room, 4-person tables and baby chairs

Most of the tables at Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch are for four people, so we could spread out comfortably. There's also a separate room in the back set up for group seating.

It seemed like a good spot for a work dinner too.

It was a hot day, so I appreciated how cool the inside was. There were baby chairs, and tissues, spoons, and chopsticks were all tucked under the table.

Tablet ordering, spice levels and the side dishes

We ordered through the tablet on the table. Payment happens on the way out, and Naver Pay, Zero Pay, and Suwon Pay are all accepted. I liked that you can choose your spice level. We ordered a regular pork bone soup and a spicy ugeoji pork bone soup. As soon as we ordered, they brought out kkakdugi, pickled onions, and a dipping sauce for the meat.

The pickled onions were tangy — right up my alley.

The kkakdugi was crunchy and on the tangy side, so I bet it'd go great with ramyeon too. There's a self-serve bar, so refills are possible.

My husband's pork bone soup had three big bones and really hearty meat. Even at the regular spice level it had a slight kick, and it was super filling. Nothing beats a soup and rice bowl when you want something substantial.

How spicy is the 12,000 won ugeoji pork bone soup?

My ugeoji pork bone soup had a huge amount of ugeoji (dried napa cabbage) in it, and it was soft and delicious. They also put in a generous amount of green onion, which I loved.

The ugeoji was fresh with absolutely no toughness. Honestly, I found it tastier than the regular version, so I think I'd order the ugeoji pork bone soup again next time.

Since I ordered the spicy version, it felt a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun. It was spicy enough to be satisfying without upsetting your stomach — just the right amount. I wasn't drinking, but I could see this being great as a hangover cure or paired with alcohol.

Just like the regular soup, the ugeoji version also had three big bones, and the meat was hearty with no gamey smell, making for a filling meal.

It's good on its own, but eating it with the broth or dipping it in the sauce added even more savory depth.

Free ice cream after the meal, ingredient origins and opening hours

It was a satisfying, filling place to eat, and on the way out there was ice cream and coffee too.

I was happy to see melona, one of my favorites, in there.

They also post country-of-origin labels, so keep that in mind if you go.

They're open 24 hours except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so it's easy to drop by whenever suits you. If you're looking for pork bone soup in Ingye-dong, I'd recommend this place.
