Pohang seafood restaurant for snow crab: Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center

For dinner on the second and final day of our Pohang trip, we headed to Jukdo Market in search of a good place to eat before making the trip home. Since we were in Pohang, we had to have snow crab at least once—but this time, I wanted something a bit more serious than red snow crab, so we came to Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center (영광회대게센타) for Bakdal snow crab!

Visiting Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center in Jukdo Market

It has been carrying on a 50-year tradition even within Jukdo Market, so I was even more excited to visit. “Ppang ppang” is so cute even when I see it again 🤭

We used Jukdo Market No. 1 Public Parking Lot, and they gave us a parking voucher after the meal, so it was nice and easy.

What really catches your eye at the entrance are the many tanks! You can see clearly into them from outside, and everything looked well maintained, so I immediately got the clean impression of a place serving fresh sashimi and seafood.

Ordering the Bakdal Special for 2

The Bakdal snow crab was definitely bigger than the red snow crab we had the day before!

I had wanted to try Bakdal snow crab even before coming to Pohang, so we ordered the Bakdal Special for 2, which comes with Bakdal snow crab and a range of other dishes 😎

From banchan to mulhoe and sashimi

Even though the seafood restaurants in Jukdo Market may look similar in their basic spread, there are little differences once you actually eat.

At Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center, a variety of dishes came as banchan (side dishes), from seafood and vinegared salad to fried items, sushi, and pufferfish skin, so it was fun picking at a bit of everything.

The thing made with pufferfish skin? That was interesting, and it suited my mom's taste.

The mulhoe (cold spicy raw-fish soup) even had abalone in it. If we had come just for sashimi, I think I would have ordered an extra bowl of rice to mix in. Such an unexpectedly special treat!!

A plate of sashimi came too, and there was much more than I expected. It honestly felt like ordering a separate small sashimi platter, so we came thinking only about the snow crab and ended up properly enjoying sashimi too.

Meaty Bakdal snow crab

Doesn't this Bakdal snow crab look incredible? It came with shrimp and scallops too, so the spread was generous. You have to eat the dishes that arrive first quickly to make room on the table, haha.

Maybe because it was Bakdal snow crab, but you could see how plump and full the claw meat was the moment you looked at it. The body and legs were nicely packed with meat too—you know that fun of snapping the joints and pulling out a chunk of crab meat, right? Haha.

Crab-innards fried rice and spicy-soup ramen

When you've had snow crab, you have to finish properly with crab-innards fried rice! Mixing rice into the rich, nutty innards inside the crab shell made it a dinner with zero regrets.

Even when you're full, spicy fish soup at a sashimi restaurant is a must!!! It was just the right size for two, and even though we were already stuffed, somehow we still couldn't give up that hot broth.

Once you've had spicy fish soup at a Pohang sashimi restaurant, isn't it practically a rule to cook a pack of ramen in it too?! Hahaha. It came with Ansungtangmyun ramen, and cooking it in the broth with red snow crab and seafood made this another special treat.

Even though we only ordered Bakdal snow crab, the meal continued from all the banchan to sashimi, seafood, spicy fish soup, and a proper red snow crab seafood ramen, so it was truly generous even for two. There was also a banner for Pohang's daughter, Jeon Yujin, in the restaurant. I guess the owner is a Yujin Guard fan, haha.
