₩120,000 sashimi and seafood jjim set for 3 in Cheonan: Donghae Bada

In short

Donghae Bada Hoetjip is a seasonal sashimi and seafood jjim (braised seafood) restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan. Three of us ordered the mixed sashimi + seafood jjim set for three at 120,000 won, and the banchan alone filled the table: pajeon, white kimchi, beondegi (silkworm pupae), suyuk, grilled dab and seaweed soup in a stone pot. With its own parking lot out front and a wide open hall, Donghae Bada Hoetjip works well for team dinners and family meals.

With its spacious hall, dedicated parking lot, and generous spread of side dishes, it's become well known as a spot for group dinners or family gatherings in Dujeong-dong. This time I went all out with a combo of fresh mixed sashimi and spicy seafood jjim (braised seafood) — here's the full rundown!

From individual sashimi dishes to agujjim (braised monkfish), seafood soup, and seafood jjim, the menu lineup is really varied.

  • Agujjim (braised monkfish): ₩55,000 (2 people) / ₩65,000 (3–4 people)
  • Seafood soup/jjim: ₩65,000 (2 people) / ₩75,000 (3 people) / ₩90,000 (4 people)
  • Set menu (mixed sashimi + seafood jjim/soup, etc.): ₩110,000 / ₩120,000 (3 people) / ₩135,000 (4 people)

This time, since there were three of us, we ordered the hearty 'mixed sashimi + seafood jjim (3 people)' set!

What banchan comes free: pajeon, beondegi, suyuk, grilled dab, seaweed soup

Right after ordering, the basic banchan (side dishes) spread arrived. It was such a satisfying lineup that chopsticks were already busy before the main dishes even showed up. Let me introduce them one by one!

Full spread of basic banchan side dishes
Crispy grilled pajeon pancake
Cabbage salad drizzled with dressing
Baekkimchi and beondegi basic side dishes

Crispy pajeon (savory pancake) & fresh salad — the first thing I reached for was the golden, crispy pajeon and a crunchy cabbage salad drizzled generously with tangy dressing. Perfect for gently waking up an empty stomach and getting the appetite going.

Baekkimchi (aged white kimchi) & savory beondegi (silkworm pupae) — you can't have a sashimi restaurant without these! Salty, savory beondegi and cleanly rinsed baekkimchi came out. This baekkimchi especially pairs perfectly with a thick slice of sashimi wrapped inside it later.

Neatly plated boiled pork suyuk
Golden grilled dab fish
Seaweed soup served bubbling in a stone pot

Suyuk (boiled sliced pork) & seasoned dried radish — neatly plated, mild and tender meat topped with sweet-and-spicy seasoned dried radish had a great crunchy texture and made a wonderful side dish. Even as a basic banchan, the quality was excellent.

Golden grilled fish (grilled dab) — a generously sized piece of fish came out grilled perfectly crispy outside and moist inside. The seasoning was nicely salty, a flavor that anyone, young or old, would enjoy.

Seaweed soup in a stone pot — lastly, a hot bubbling seaweed soup served in a stone pot. It was great for warming up the stomach between bites of cold sashimi.

Every single basic side dish was worth reaching for — nothing to skip — so satisfaction was already high before the main dishes, the mixed sashimi and seafood jjim, even arrived.

The mixed sashimi platter: thick-cut tuna, flounder and rockfish in season

🐟 Mixed sashimi — the main event arrived, beautifully plated on an elegant wooden tray. Seasonal sashimi like tuna, flounder, and rockfish were set out with a glossy, glistening presentation.

The sashimi was sliced really thick, so with one piece you got a full, chewy texture in your mouth. The freshness was so good there was no fishy taste at all — the more you chewed, the more the fish's own savory sweetness came through. It was great whether dipped in wasabi soy sauce or spicy vinegar sauce.

Seafood jjim for 3: squid, octopus and scallops over a bed of bean sprouts

🐙 Seafood jjim — another main dish after enjoying the freshness of the sashimi. Even though it's the portion for 3, it came out on a huge plate almost overflowing.

Spicy seafood jjim with squid and octopus
Seafood jjim topped with scallops and shrimp
Seafood jjim with bean sprouts and sauce mixed in

Squid, octopus, scallops, roe, milt, shrimp, and more fresh seafood packed generously in, with the sweet-and-spicy sauce perfectly matched with crunchy bean sprouts. The seafood was well cleaned and prepped, giving a chewy yet tender texture, and the delicious spicy sauce kept us reaching for more even though we were already full. The combo of chewy sashimi and spicy seafood jjim was truly perfect together.
