Myeongdong Station jokbal boiled six times a day: Miss Jokbal
In short
Miss Jokbal Seoul Myeongdong Branch is a jokbal (braised pig's trotter) restaurant on Myeongdong 3-gil in Jung-gu, Seoul. Curious about jokbal that the shop says is boiled six times a day, I ordered the Emperor's BBQ set, which filled the table with free kimchi kalguksu (noodle soup) plus gimbap, salad, shrimp, aged kimchi and japchae. The meat was tender rather than tough or dry, so the Emperor's BBQ set delivered on both looks and taste.

Coco the jokbal killer here I'm a total jokbal lover so I've eaten a LOT of it... but I'd never had jokbal like this before..??? Want to know why? Haha

Before I get into the actual tasting notes, let me show you the visuals first. The table gets absolutely packed with jokbal and every kind of side dish spread out wide — I mean, is this really just one jokbal order?? The visuals were seriously no joke.
Where is Miss Jokbal Seoul Myeongdong Branch and what does it look like?

On this trip to Myeongdong I stopped by Miss Jokbal Myeongdong Branch, a jokbal restaurant near Myeongdong Station. Before visiting I saw in reviews that they boil the jokbal at least six times a day, and I got so curious. Boiling it six times — how tender would that even be~~~ Jokbal is best eaten warm and soft anyway. I went in expecting great things, haha.
Inside Miss Jokbal: seating and atmosphere

The inside of Miss Jokbal Myeongdong is casual and comfortable, so it's great for drinks with friends but also not too much for a family meal. And of course, Myeongdong gets so many foreign tourists — sure enough, there were quite a few foreign visitors inside too.

Free kimchi kalguksu with your order

Before the main jokbal arrives, Miss Jokbal Myeongdong gives you kimchi kalguksu (noodle soup) for free. Honestly, since it's a complimentary dish, I didn't expect much. But then...

This kimchi kalguksu alone could pair with a whole bottle of soju. Seriously delicious. One spoonful of the hot broth and my whole body relaxed, and slurping down the noodles got my appetite fired up well before the actual jokbal even showed up.
What comes with the Emperor's BBQ set

What we ordered was the Emperor's BBQ — a name that already sounds serious! The dish came out fairly fast. But you all, why is it called Emperor's BBQ?? I understood the second it arrived, haha... Set up a spread like this and you really are an emperor, right? Haha.
It's not just jokbal sitting there alone — a wide variety of sides come along with it. Gimbap, salad, shrimp, aged kimchi, japchae, and more, all foods that go well with jokbal, fill up the whole table. There's fun in picking through each one, and having other dishes to mix in between kept it from getting boring the way eating jokbal alone can.

A lot of people are into K-food these days, and with a spread this generous, I found myself wanting to introduce it to a foreign friend.
How does jokbal boiled six times a day taste?

I picked up a piece with high expectations and took a bite. Wow... how is the meat this soft...? I could really tell that boiling it six times and running a place with tradition makes a difference. The slices were cut to just the right tender thickness too — loved that part!!

Eating the chewy skin together with the soft meat made me so happy my eyes rolled back, haha. No toughness or dryness at all — just moist and tender, so my chopsticks kept going back for more.
It was already delicious plain, letting the meat's natural flavor shine, but adding a bit of aged kimchi on top brought a tangy note that gave it a whole different charm. Wrapping it in lettuce, alternating with salad or other sides — finding the best combo was so much fun, haha.

Working through everything from the kalguksu to the Emperor's BBQ at this jokbal restaurant near Myeongdong Station, I left feeling like I'd been treated to a truly generous spread. I love jokbal and have eaten it all over the place, but the Emperor's BBQ at Miss Jokbal Myeongdong satisfied me not just with taste but with its overwhelming visuals too!
