I was looking for somewhere simple to eat near Gwangju Airport and got a craving for tonkatsu, so I visited Jinsimwang Donkatsu Seogwangju Branch. I was mainly looking for a restaurant within 10 minutes of the airport with easy parking — the store turned out to be clean too, and this is my review after a delicious tonkatsu meal.

Jinsimwang Donkatsu Seogwangju Branch hours and closing days
Open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, last order at 20:30.

⭐️ Open year-round ⭐️ Even during holidays. Takeout and delivery are available too, and since it's open late, it's also good for dinner. Note that dine-in and takeout have different last order times.

Inside Jinsimwang Donkatsu: seating and solo-dining tables
The store is clean overall with plenty of tables. I visited a little after the lunch rush, around 2pm, and there were still quite a few people eating.

From babies who love tonkatsu to students and adults, all age groups eat here, and there's a wide range of menu items beyond tonkatsu too, so there's plenty of choice.

There's also a table for solo dining. A seat you can take without worrying about anyone's eyes on you.

There's a kids' chair too. A great place to bring children who love tonkatsu!

Parking and waiting at Jinsimwang Donkatsu Seogwangju Branch
The parking lot behind the store is spacious and parking is validated. Uniqlo and Daiso are right next door too, so it seems like a good spot to walk off a full stomach haha.

There's a waiting area too — if you're waiting, you write down your number and party size and wait.

What's on the self bar?
A neatly kept self bar. Everything was well organized and set up somewhere easy for customers to see and use comfortably.
Each table has Wi-Fi info, self-bar instructions, and food descriptions posted. There's also a review event running, so join in and get a little extra 👍

Interestingly, this Geumho-dong tonkatsu spot Jinsimwang Donkatsu has lettuce on hand, since it's ssam-style katsu — you wrap the tonkatsu with lettuce and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste). Wrapping tonkatsu in lettuce with a chili like it's meat is such a clever idea.

There's also a kids' plate and utensils, all clean and tidy. If you're looking for a Geumho-dong tonkatsu spot that's good to bring kids to, it's Jinsimwang Donkatsu Seogwangju Branch.

There are also separate self-serve takeout containers. So you can pack up your own leftovers! I liked this a lot — since it's large-cutlet tonkatsu, the portions are big.

The inseparable partner of tonkatsu, warm cream soup, is ladled out too, plus plenty of pepper 🫶

Cheese waterfall curry katsu and Jinsim jjol fish katsu
What I ordered was the Jinsim Jjol Fish Katsu and the Cheese Waterfall Curry Katsu. The bowl size and portions were overwhelming from the start.

Rice, salad, and chili peppers come out together, and once you add pickled radish and soup from the self bar, it's a full spread. Now I understand why there are takeout containers at the self bar. The portions are so, so big that it's easy to eat until (I'm) stuffed haha. If two people order two dishes, you could share and pack up the leftovers — that's what we did too, we had leftovers and took them home.
The Cheese Waterfall Curry Katsu really lives up to its name — the cheese genuinely pours down like a waterfall.

The fish jjol katsu comes with jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles), which are slightly spicy and paired well with the fish katsu. The fish was fried whole, so the flesh was tender and soft.

The tartar sauce drizzled on top also went really well, lifting the flavor of the fish katsu up another notch. After finishing everything, with Uniqlo and Daiso right next door, I was so full but browsing there to walk it off felt like killing two birds with one stone. I think I'll come back here whenever I use Gwangju Airport. Recommending this Geumho-dong tonkatsu spot, Jinsimwang Donkatsu!
