Weekend 6pm vongole pasta in Sangmu, Gwangju: Bueokgan Sangmu
In short
Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is a pasta and wood-fired pizza restaurant in the Sangmu district of Seo-gu, Gwangju. On a weekend visit at 6pm, the writer parked in the roomy lot behind the building and ordered a garden salad, vongole pasta and rocket prosciutto pizza with grapefruit and orange drinks. Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is worth recommending as a date course with good atmosphere and no parking stress.

Most weekends I'd rather just lounge around at home, but there was somewhere I'd been wanting to go for a while, so I went out and had a really good dinner.
When I look for good restaurants or date spots, I usually check three things: whether parking is easy, whether there's a set menu I can order without worrying about the bill, and whether there's a good variety of side dishes beyond the main. Narrowing things down by these criteria, I landed on Bueokgan Sangmu Branch (부엌간 상무점).

Where is Bueokgan Sangmu Branch, and how is parking on a weekend evening?
Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is on the 1st floor at 25 Seogwangju-ro, Seo-gu, Gwangju, South Korea. I visited around 6pm on a weekend evening, and there was plenty of parking behind the building, so — unusual for the Sangmu district — I had almost zero parking stress.

The moment I walked into this Sangmu pasta restaurant, the high ceilings and soft lighting made it feel like a hotel lounge. There were several couples clearly here on dates, and apparently in the evenings there are quite a lot of group diners too.
Garden salad at Bueokgan Sangmu Branch

The first thing to arrive was the garden salad — the rocket and mixed leafy greens had a nice crunch and the dressing was tangy-sweet, which was perfect for waking up the appetite before the pasta.
Vongole pasta: how was the clam pasta?

The main dish, vongole pasta (clam pasta), had the savory clam broth soaked well into the noodles, so it was clean and not salty at all. The noodles were slightly softer than al dente. If cream or tomato sauce feels too heavy on a given day, try the vongole pasta!
Rocket prosciutto pizza from the wood-fired oven

Another strong point of this Sangmu pasta restaurant: the pizza is a must-try alongside the pasta! The rocket prosciutto pizza we ordered had a thin, crispy crust and was genuinely delicious. The saltiness of the prosciutto and the slight bitterness of the rocket balanced each other well, so we could enjoy it all the way through without it feeling greasy.

Grapefruit and orange drinks with the meal
For drinks, we each ordered a grapefruit and an orange. They did a great job of refreshing the palate between bites of pizza and pasta — I'd definitely recommend getting a drink too when enjoying pasta in Sangmu.

Best time to visit Bueokgan Sangmu Branch
If you want a relaxed brunch in Sangmu, I'd recommend visiting right after opening at 11am — you can sit at the window sofa seats without waiting and start your day with a hearty brunch. For couples wanting a romantic dinner date, evenings after 6-7pm, once the soft lighting comes on, were much more atmospheric. Families with children will find it easier to request the larger tables in advance.
That said, I'd recommend checking the break time and last order hours before visiting. *Last order at 21:00.

If you want easy parking and a great brunch or dinner, why not try Bueokgan Sangmu Branch? That wraps up this review — the combination of vongole pasta and rocket prosciutto pizza was very satisfying.
I hope this post helps anyone building out their list of Gwangju pasta restaurants, couples wanting to combine brunch and dinner dates in Sangmu in one trip, and anyone looking for a good-atmosphere spot for group gatherings!
There are moments when good food makes even your heart feel full. After spending time like that at Bueokgan Sangmu Branch that day, I think this place will be the first one that comes to mind whenever I think of pasta in Gwangju. Next time, I'm planning to come back with my family.
